Redcore Linux is a Gentoo-based, rolling release distribution which ships with two editions featuring pre-configured desktop environments: KDE Plasma and LXQt. The project's latest release, Redcore Linux 1908, is based on Gentoo's Testing branch to provide more up to date packages: "Starting with this release, Redcore Linux is based on Gentoo Linux's Testing branch and as such it is now a cutting edge distribution. However, to avoid the cutting part as much as possible we have our own Testing branch and Testing binary repository. We do our resync with Gentoo on a weekly basis, in our Testing branch, then after a while of Testing we push the changes to our Master branch. This works under the following scheme : Gentoo Testing -> Redcore Testing -> Redcore Stable. One can ride on our Testing branch (sisyphus can change the branch for you), and if you do so, please report any issues you find so we fix them before merging to master." A complete list of changes can be found in the distribution's release announcement. About Redcore Linux
Redcore Linux explores the idea of bringing the power of Gentoo Linux to the masses. It aims to be a very quick way to install a pure Gentoo Linux system without spending hours or days compiling from source code, and reading documentation. To achieve this goal, Redcore provides a repository with pre-built binary packages which receives continuous updates, following a rolling release model.

Redcore Linux is a desktop-oriented distribution based on Gentoo. The project's latest release, Redcore Linux 2401, brings updated hardware support through newer kernels and switches the default sound system to PipeWire. "After 11 months of development, I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of Redcore Linux Hardened 2401 (code name 'Tarazed') stable ISO image. Not much has changed on the surface, the distribution works and looks the same, however, this cycle saw lots of work under the hood. Changelog: resync with Gentoo Linux' testing tree as of 21.01.2024; Linux kernel 6.6.13 LTS as default, 6.1 LTS and 5.15 LTS available in repositories, for those who want an older kernel; glibc 2.37, GCC 13.2.0, Binutils 2.40, Clang/LLVM 17.0.6, Rust 1.74.1-based toolchain; latest Mesa, X.Org Server, XWayland and Wayland-based graphical stack; PipeWire is now the default sound server implementation, replacing both PulseAudio and JACK, modernising the sound stack; OpenSSL 3 is now default, moving away from the good old OpenSSL 1; FFmpeg 6 is now default." Distribution Release: Redcore Linux 2301 |

Ghiunhan Mamut has announced the release of Redcore Linux 2301, an updated build of the project's "hardened" distribution based on the "testing" branch of Gentoo Linux: "I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of Redcore Linux Hardened 2301 (code name 'Sirius') stable ISO image. This cycle was mostly about fixing bugs. Since our previous release in October, many of you have flocked to our bug tracker and reported many issues, which I appreciate. Sisyphus, our package manager, saw a massive benefit and it is now more reliable than ever. We also added minor features, such as coloured output support. Changelog: resync with Gentoo Linux testing tree as of 2023-02-23; Linux headers 6.1, glibc 2.36, GCC 12.2.1, Binutils 2.39, LLVM/Clang 15.0.7 toolchain; improved hardening; Mesa 23.0.0, X.Org Server 21.1.7, Xwayland 22.1.8 graphics stack; Linux kernel 6.1.12 LTS as default (6.0.19, 5.15.95 LTS, 5.10.169 LTS available in the repositories, if you need an older kernel); KDE Plasma 5.27.1, KDE Gear 22.12.2, KDE Frameworks 103 default desktop stack...." Distribution Release: Redcore Linux 2201 |
Redcore Linux is a Gentoo-based distribution featuring the KDE Plasma desktop environment, a graphical system installer, and a repository of binary packages for people who prefer not to compile their software. The project's latest release works to keep the binary repository up to date with its Gentoo parent. "October seems to be our month, as the previous stable release was launched just shy of 1 year ago. Today, I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of Redcore Linux Hardened 2201 (codename Rastaban) stable. This cycle had ups and downs, but at the end of it, we have the best release to date, and a very up to date one. Redcore Linux has been a rolling release distribution from the very beginning, but it used to lag behing Gentoo Linux by a few, usually 5 to 7, days. At times the lag was considerably longer, due to time constraints on my part. But, the old, fluctuating pattern is gone. Starting mid-July, I implemented some changes, and now Redcore Linux resyncs itself with Gentoo Linux every 6 hours." Additional information and a list of bug fixes can be found in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: Redcore Linux 2102 |
Redcore Linux is a desktop-oriented distribution based on Gentoo. The project's latest snapshot, version 2102, carries the "Polaris" code name. "We're pleased to announce that Redcore Linux Hardened 2102 (codename Polaris) is now available for download. This cycle was a rather smooth one, without major incidents, until the nasty portage bug announced in our last blogpost. But that one was not the only bug we addressed since our previous release. In fact, this release is mostly focused on polishing and fixing bugs, so you won't find many exciting new features inside. Though, we still updated over 1300 packages since our previous release and, to top it off, we did a mass rebuild of the whole repository. Changelog: re-sync with Gentoo's testing tree as of 01.10.2021; Linux kernel 5.14.10 as default; LTS linux kernels 5.10.71 and 5.4.151 available in repository; KDE Plasma 5.22.5, KDE Gear 21.08.1; Xwayland is now a standalone package; Chromium replaces Firefox as the default web browser; Mailspring replaces Thunderbird as the default mail client." Additional information can be found in the release announcement. Download: Redcore.Linux.Hardened.2102.KDE.amd64.iso (3,957MB, SHA256, pkglist). |

Development Release: Redcore Linux 2101 Beta |
Ghiunhan Mamut has announced the availability of a beta build of Redcore Linux 2101, the upcoming new release of the project's Gentoo-based distribution with a goal to provide a pure Gentoo system without the need to compile it from source code. "I'm happy to let you all know that Redcore Linux Hardened 2101 'Orion' has reached beta status. While the alpha release was fairly good, it had some issues. Some of them were small, some of them fairly nasty (like random live session freezes). I feel very confident about the quality of the beta release, and I believe it is even better than some of our previous stable releases. However, more testing won't hurt anybody, and I'm pretty sure I missed some issues. In fact this is the first ever beta release since Redcore Linux exists. Changelog (since 2004 'Neptune'): re-sync with Gentoo as of 2021-01-08; distribution rebuilt from scratch using new Gentoo profiles; Linux kernel 5.10.5 LTS, GCC 10.2.0, glibc 2.32, Binutils 2.35, LLVM 11.0.1; graphics stack - MESA 20.3.2, libdrm 2.4.103, X.Org Server 1.20.10; Qt 5.15.2, KDE Frameworks 5.77, KDE Applications 20.12.1, KDE Plasma 5.20.5...."
