Adam Conrad has announced that the beta build of the upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 release, code-named "Cosmic Cuttlefish", is now ready for testing; this includes all the participating sub-projects - Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Studio and Xubuntu: "The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the final beta release of the Ubuntu 18.10 Desktop, Server and Cloud products." Here is the standard release announcement as published on the ubuntu-announce mailing list. The release notes are short on details, but they list one known issue: "Booting live images in order to install Ubuntu in VirtualBox can, for some flavours and on some versions of VirtualBox, fail to boot into the live session. The workaround for this is to enable 'nomodeset' via the initial boot menu." About Ubuntu
|
Ubuntu is a complete desktop Linux operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit. "Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". The Ubuntu distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.
