NEW • Development Release: UBOS 12 Beta |
Rate this project
UBOS is a server distribution based on Arch Linux. The distribution provides utilities for quickly setting up network services such as Wordpress and Nextcloud. The developers of UBOS have launched a new beta which introduces new services for users and makes it easier for developers to package their web applications on UBOS. There are new conveniences too, for example the distribution will automatically reboot when it detects a new kernel has been installed. This default behaviour can be turned off. "This release has been focused on: improving the way how UBOS is built and tested; making it possible to release app upgrades and OS upgrades independently of each other; making it easier for developers to package their applications for UBOS. Compared to those changes, there is less new end-user visible functionality. Note that application packages have not been upgraded in this release; however, as we are now able to release apps independently of the OS, app upgrades will follow shortly." A list of new features can be found in the project's release notes. Download: ubos_yellow_x86_64-pc_20171103-190356.img.xz (549MB, signature, pkglist). |

Development Release: UBOS 14 Beta |
UBOS is an Arch-based Linux distribution designed to greatly reduce the amount of time required to set up and maintain common network services. A new version, UBOS 14 Beta, of the minimal server distribution is available for testing. The new release offers a smoother backup process, faster site creation with template files and there is a new command for displaying essential networking information. The release announcement reads: "As usual, we have a mix of new features that make users' lives easier, new features that make developers' lives easier, bug fixes and package upgrades. Here are the highlights: It's now easy to use a separate 'big data disk' (like an external USB disk on a Raspberry Pi, or an extra big volume on Amazon EC2). This makes it much simpler for UBOS users that have a lot of data on their device. Perform backup and system upgrade in a single step for even less work and worry when upgrading everything from OS to apps. Create sites from templates files, and only fill in the information that wasn't provided already in the template. There's a new command for concisely displaying the networking configuration. Developers can now write installation scriptlets in any language; there is no more need to write Perl wrappers." Download: ubos_yellow_x86_64-pc_20180426-024653.img.xz (689MB, signature, pkglist). |

Development Release: UBOS 13 Beta |
UBOS is a Linux distribution designed to greatly reduce the amount of time required to set up and maintain common network services. UBOS is based on Arch Linux and can be run on x86 machines as well as Raspberry Pi computers. The project has released a new development snapshot, UBOS 13 Beta, which introduces several new service modules which can be quickly set up. "UBOS Beta 13 is out, and what a release it is! There are lots of new things. Here are some of the highlights: WiFi configuration has become really simple, by means of the UBOS Staff USB stick: save a file with your WiFi network name and credentials to your UBOS Staff, and next time you boot your Raspberry Pi or PC, UBOS will automatically and securely connect it to your WiFi network. Installing a full-fledged Mastodon server and running your own version of Twitter, with up to 500 characters, and federating with other decentralized microblogging services, just takes one command. Note: Mastodon requires TLS, so you need to specify --tls when creating your site. phpBB lets you run your own discussion boards on a site you control. No more need for Google Groups or the like." More information can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: ubos_yellow_x86_64-pc_20180304-024830.img.xz (615MB, signature, pkglist). |
