Distribution Release: Lakka 2.3.1 |
Lakka is a lightweight Linux distribution that transforms a small computer into a full blown game console. The distribution is based on LibreELEC and runs the RetroArch console emulator. The project has published a new version, Lakka 2.3.1, which supports running on the Raspberry Pi 4 computer as well as the ROCKPro64 board. Perhaps the most impressive new feature is real-time translation of text: "One of the flagship features of RetroArch 1.7.8 is the AI Project. This unique and never-seen before feature allows you to translate your games on the fly, in real-time as you play. Once setup on your Lakka box, you will be able to press the AI hotkey to have the system scan the screen for any foreign language text. Once recognized, the text is translated and restitued back to you depending on the current mode: Speech mode: the translated text is read back to you using text to speech. As the game isn't interrupted in this mode, that allows you to have the game dialogues read to you in your language as if someone was sitting next to you, translating the game in real time. Image mode (on the picture): the original text is replaced by the translated text onscreen, while the game is paused to give you time to read." Further details on the new version can be found in the release announcement. Download: Lakka-Generic.x86_64-2.3.1.img.gz (424MB). |

Distribution Release: Lakka 2.0 |
Lakka is a lightweight Linux distribution that transforms a small computer (such as a desktop PC or Raspberry Pi) into a full blown game console. The project has released Lakka 2.0, which contains many updated packages. This new version of Lakka is based on LibreELEC while past versions were based on OpenELEC. "After 6 months of community testing, we are proud to announce Lakka 2.0. This new version of Lakka is based on LibreELEC instead of OpenELEC. Almost every package has been updated! We are now using RetroArch 1.5.0, which includes so many changes that listing everything in a single blog post is rather difficult. There are also tons of new cores to play new types of games. Important changes: LibreELEC 8.0 stable rebase; RetroArch 1.5.0; new server for downloads and updates; almost all libretro cores are now enabled on every image. Lakka 2.0 introduces support for a range of new devices, including the Raspberry Pi Zero, Odroid, WeTek Play 2, WeTek Core and WeTek Hub. A complete list of changes, along with screen shots and a summary of supported devices, can be found in the project's release announcement. Development Release: Lakka 2.0 RC1 |
The Lakka distribution is a lightweight, Linux-based operating system that turns a desktop or single-board computer into a gaming console. The Lakka project has published a new release candidate, Lakka 2.0-RC1, which shifts the distribution's base from OpenELEC to LibreELEC. "During the last two months, we've been busy re-basing Lakka on LibreELEC. It was quite difficult because we didn't want to drop support for any ARM boards, but we finally managed to get it working on time. This new version of Lakka is based on the LibreELEC 8.0 stable branch and ships RetroArch 1.4.1. It is a release candidate intended for testers and developers. If you are a beginner Lakka user, it's better to keep using the current stable release until Lakka 2.0 is ready for the masses. LibreELEC 8.0 is way more up-to-date than our previous OpenELEC 6.0 base. The compatibility with recent PC motherboards, graphic cards, and joypads should be greatly improved." Additional information can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: Lakka-Generic.x86_64-8.0-devel-20170226162544-r25805-g900da08.img.gz (293MB, SHA256). |
