Ikey Doherty has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Solus 1.0, a Linux distribution featuring a custom desktop environment called "Budgie" and a package manager named "eopkg" (forked from Pardus Linux): "The Solus project is happy to announce the availability of the first release candidate of the Solus operating system. Budgie has been updated to improve stability and is a stability and maintenance update prior to the landing of the new Budgie rewrite and Raven (our notification center), landing in a future update. DoFlicky, the new driver management tool of Solus, is now available for testing as of this release candidate. DoFlicky will be accompanied by installable drivers for broadcom-sta, NVIDIA 304, 340xx, 352. With our driver management software landing, we will integrate 32-bit 'multilib' support after ensuring there are no further issues with DoFlicky. Due to the quality of the proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx), we will not be providing them at this moment in time. We will provide them as an update after RC1." Distribution Release: Solus 4.5 |
Solus is an independent Linux distribution featuring the eopkg package manager and the flagship edition runs the Budgie desktop environment. The latest release of Solus, version 4.5, introduces a new desktop spin for Xfce (which is considered to be in beta status) and switches to the Calamares system installer to get the system up and running. "The Solus team is proud to announce the release of Solus 4.5 Resilience. This release brings updated applications and kernels, refreshed software stacks, a new installer, and a new ISO edition featuring the Xfce desktop environment. With Solus 4.5 comes a new installation experience using the Calamares installer. This enables easier installation using filesystems like BTRFS, specifying your own partition layout right in the installer, and it’s a major step in migrating away from Python 2, which the old os-installer was written in. A ton of work has gone into the new installation experience, and we are glad to finally release it to everyone!" Distribution Release: Solus 4.3 |

Solus is an independent, rolling-release, desktop Linux distribution. The project is available in four desktop flavours, the primary one being the project's custom Budgie graphical user interface. Its latest release, Solus 4.3, features a number of improvements to multimedia and hardware support, as well as an update to Budgie. "Solus 4.3 ships with version 0.9.0 of the dav1d AV1 decoder, which should provide a large boost to high-bitdepth decoding on AVX2 supported CPUs. We also ship with PulseAudio 14.2, which fixes a bug related to unplug event handling. Solus ships with the latest release of our flagship desktop environment, Budgie 10.5.3. This features GNOME 40 stack support alongside all the fixes and quality-of-life improvements listed below. We welcome you to check out the full release notes listed above. Budgie 10.5.3 introduces fixes to Budgie panel applets, Raven, and various window state tracking. Drop use of Queue and Cancellable in Raven's NotificationView. Distribution Release: Solus 4.1 |
Solus is a Linux distribution built from scratch. It uses a forked version of the PiSi package manager, maintained as "eopkg" within Solus, and a custom desktop environment called "Budgie", developed in-house. The project's latest release is Solus 4.1 which offers many updates and should provide a faster install process thanks to using a different format for compression: "Solus 4.1 is the first ISO release to feature the use of Zstandard (zstd) compression for the SquashFS images. Compared to the xz compressed ISOs from previous releases, the ztsd compressed size is a little bit larger. But as a result, the decompression times are significantly improved (3-4x), leading to a much faster installation process than ever previously achieved. In most cases, you can expect to spend more time filling out the questions in the installation wizard than it will actually take to copy everything to disk. We hope you are just as surprised as we were at just how fast this process has become." The project's release announcement offers further details. Solus is an independently-developed desktop Linux distribution. While the distribution is available in three editions (Budgie, GNOME and MATE), the project is perhaps best known for its work showcasing the Budgie desktop environment on a rolling-release platform. Distribution Release: Solus 2017.04.18.0 |
Joshua Strobl has announced the availability of an updated release of Solus, an independent, desktop-focused Linux distribution. Besides the standard edition featuring the Budgie desktop (developed in house), this version also comes in a MATE variant as well as a brand-new GNOME 3.24 flavour: "We're proud to announce our second ISO image snapshot, 2017.04.18.0, across our Budgie and MATE editions, as well as our new GNOME edition. This snapshot is the culmination of months of work across nearly every aspect of our operating system, ranging from multiple under-the-hood upgrades and changes to improvements to our desktop experiences. This snapshot is the first to deliver bulletproof boot management out-of-the-box, leveraging clr-boot-manager to enable the maintenance and garbage collection of kernels, as well as configuration of the bootloader. Furthermore, clr-boot-manager enables the retention of known-working kernels, so you can always roll back to a prior kernel."
