The developers of Android-x86, a port of the Android operating system to the x86 architecture, have released Android-x86 5.1-rc1. This is the first release candidate of Android-x86 5.1 and it includes a number of interesting features, including support for 64-bit processors. "The 5.1-rc1 release is based on the Android 5.1.1_r24. We added many x86 specified code and fixed issues to let the system runs smoothly on x86 platforms, especially for netbooks or tablets. The key features contain: Supports 64-bit kernel and userspace, as well as 32-bit system. Update kernel to 4.0.9. Enable OpenGL ES hardware acceleration for Intel/AMD(radeon/radeonsi)/Nvidia(nouveau) chipsets. Support booting from UEFI and installing to UEFI disk. Be able to install to ext4/ext3/ext2/NTFS/FAT32 file systems via a text based GUI installer. Support Multi-touch, Audio, Wifi, Bluetooth, Sensors, Camera and Ethernet (DHCP only). Auto-mount external usb drive and SD card with filesystem vFAT/NTFS/exFAT/ext4. Support VM including QEMU, VirtualBox and VMware. The project's latest update is to its 8.1 branch. It includes graphics, sound, and kernel updates. "The 8.1-r6 is mainly a security updates of 8.1-r5 with some bugfixes. We encourage users of 8.1-r5 or older releases upgrade to this one. Update to latest Android 8.1.0 Oreo MR1 release (8.1.0_r81). Update to LTS kernel 4.19.195. Update Mesa to 19.3.5. Update alsa-lib and alsa-utils to 1.2.5, add alsa_alsamixer tool and ucm files. Fix unable to download native bridge libraries issue. Add more devices specific quirks. This release contains these files. You can choose one of them depends on your devices. Most modern devices should be able to run the 64-bit ISO. Version 9.0 of Android-x86, an unofficial port of Google's Android to standard computers using the x86 architecture, has been released. This version is based on Android "Pie": "The Android-x86 project is glad to announce the 9.0-r1 release to the public. This is the first stable release for Android-x86 9.0 (pie-x86). The 9.0-r1 release is based on the latest Android 9.0.0 Pie release (android-9.0.0_r53). The features include: support both 64-bit and 32-bit kernel and userspace with latest LTS kernel 4.19.105; support OpenGL ES 3.x hardware acceleration for Intel, AMD, NVIDIA and QEMU (virgl) by Mesa 19.3.4; support OpenGL ES 2.0 via SwiftShader for software rendering on unsupported GPU devices; support hardware accelerated codecs on devices with Intel HD and G45 graphics family; support secure booting from UEFI and installing to UEFI disk; a text-based GUI installer; add theme support to GRUB-EFI; support multi-touch, audio, WiFi, Bluetooth, sensors, camera and Ethernet (DHCP only); simulate WiFi adapter on devices with Ethernet only to increase app compatibility; auto-mount external USB drive and SD card...." The Android-x86 project is a port of the Android operating system for consumer desktop and laptop computers. The Android-x86 project has announced a third update to the project's x86 port of Android 6.0 "Marshmallow". The new release includes the ability to auto-mount optical media, includes a fix for running in VMware virtual machines and features an updated Linux kernel (version 4.4.62). "The Android-x86 project is happy to announce the 6.0-r3 release to public. This is the third stable release of Android-x86 6.0 (marshmallow-x86)... The updates since 6.0-r2 include: CD/DVD auto-mount. Fix VMware broken since 6.0-r2. A qemu-android script to launch Android-x86 in QEMU (only available in RPM installation). Update to latest Android Marshmallow-MR2 release (6.0.1_r79). Update kernel to 4.4.62 with more patches from AOSP. Update Mesa to 17.0.4. The developers of Android-x86, a desktop operating system based on Android, have announced the first stable release of Android-x86 6.0. This version carries the code name Marshmallow and ships with version 4.4.20 of the Linux kernel. This release also includes F2FS support, fixes suspend/resume bugs related to wi-fi connections and introduces HDMI audio support. "The Android-x86 project is glad to announce the 6.0-r1 release to public. This is the first stable release of Android-x86 6.0 ('Marshmallow' x86). In addition to all key features since 6.0-rc2 it includes: update Linux kernel to 4.4.20 with more patches from AOSP; update Mesa to 12.0.2; preliminary HDMI audio support; add F2FS support; change trackpad cursor from circle to normal mouse point. We created universal images for most x86 platforms. This release contains two files; one is the 32-bit x86 ISO image and the other is the 64-bit x86_64 ISO image. Chih-Wei Huang has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Android-x86 6.0, an upcoming new version of the project's unofficial port of Google's Android to standard desktop and laptop computers. This release is based on Android "Marshmallow" and is the first one to support the x86_64 processor architecture: "The Android-x86 project is glad to announce the 6.0-rc1 release. Chih-Wei Huang has announced the release of Android-x86 4.4-r5, a bug-fix update of an earlier release to fix a "hazy fonts" issue found on some devices. Android-x86 is a project that ports Google's operating system for portable devices to standard desktop and laptop computers. From the release notes: "Android-x86.org is glad to release the 4.4-r5 to the public. Android-x86 4.4-r5 is a bug fix of the 4.4-r4 release. It addresses the hazy font issue of MESA 10.5.9 found on 5th Generation Intel GPUs. You are encouraged to upgrade to this release if you have encountered the hazy fonts issue. This release contains only one file. The file is bootable on devices with legacy BIOS as well as UEFI firmware. The file can be dumped into a USB drive to produce a bootable USB stick. Known issues: suspend and resume may have problems on some systems; the installer can't format ext3 file system. Please report bugs to the android-x86 mailing list with detailed specifications of your machine and error logs." The Android-x86 project develops and distributes a port of the Android operating system for 32-bit and 64-bit x86 processors. This allows users to run the Android operating system on consumer desktop and laptop computers. The Android-x86 project has announced a new release in the Android-x86 4.4 series. The new version, Android-x86 4.4-r4, is likely to be the last in the 4.4 series. "The Android-x86 4.4-r4 is based on the 4.4-r3 release. It mainly addresses the hazy fonts issue of Mesa 10.5.9 found in some GPUs. Besides, the EFI ISO support is back-ported to this release. That means the ISO is bootable from a UEFI device. Therefore we only provide one ISO file in this release. The kernel is updated to 4.0.9 with patches to support more peripherals like MS Surface series. The obsolete 2GB limitation of data.img (created when installed to NTFS or VFAT) is also removed. Note VFAT still suffers from the 4GB limitation of the file system." Chih-Wei Huang has announced the release of Android-x86 4.4-r3, the latest update from the project that builds an unofficial port of Google's Android mobile operating system for Intel and AMD x86 processors: "The Android-x86.org is glad to announce the 4.4-r3 release to the public. This is the third stable release Android-x86 4.4 (kitkat-x86). The 4.4-r3 release is based on the Android 4.4.4_r2.0.1 (KTU84Q) release. We have fixed and added x86-specific code to let the system run smoothly on x86 platforms, especially on tablets and netbooks. There are a lot of improvements since the 4.4-r2 release including: upgrade the kernel to 4.0.8 with more drivers enabled to support modern hardware, Baytrail platform is well supported; replace Bluedroid by the Bluez stack, Bluetooth is more stable and usable, be able to install image and grub2-efi to GPT partitioned disks; add a new HAL sensor to support iio style sensors; update Mesa to 10.5.9, enable hardware acceleration for NVIDIA chips (nouveau) and VMware (vmwgfx)...."
