MSC.Linux was dedicated to high performance cluster computing and was a member of the OSCAR (Open-Source Cluster Application Resources) group. MSC.Linux offers many advantages over other Linux distributions. These advantages stem from MSC.Software's 40-year heritage and involvement in high-performance scientific and technical computing. When the MSC.Linux team of developers designed the MSC.Linux distribution, they included all the tools necessary to manage a compute cluster. Whether you are running a compute cluster of 4 nodes (computers) to 4000 nodes, the wisest choice in operating systems was MSC.Linux. Features of this distribution include compute cluster management tools, graphical interface and fast-installation with an easy-to-use, web-based installation and system administration.

Ross Gammon has announced the release of Ubuntu Studio 17.10, the latest version of the project's official Ubuntu variant designed for audio, video and graphics professionals. This is routine release with the usual round of software updates and a new experimental feature for improved performance during recordings: "We are happy to announce the release of our latest version, Ubuntu Studio 17.10 'Artful Aardvark'. As a regular version, it will be supported for 9 months. Since it's just out, you may experience some issues, so you might want to wait a bit before upgrading. The Ubuntu Studio Controls package has been updated to provide an experimental option to set the CPU governor to performance mode. This is important for recording. At the moment, the setting is not persistent, and needs to be reset at every reboot. BIOS settings may need to be changed for this setting to take effect. Audio - removed zynjacku as this software is no longer maintained by the original developer." See the release announcement and release notes for further information. Distribution Release: Ubuntu Studio 13.04 |
 |
Kaj Ailomaa has announced the release of Ubuntu Studio 13.04, a specialist distribution dedicated to media creation and featuring a large collection of multimedia software: "A new release of Ubuntu Studio is out. This release marks a turning point as it will only be supported for 9 months. For the past two releases, we've been experiencing some bugs with both Jack and PulseAudio. Since 13.04 includes newer releases of Jack and PulseAudio, the bugs are no longer present. And while Jack has been fixed in all releases recently, PulseAudio is still causing problems in 12.04 and 12.10, but the fix is under way. For this release, the menu has seen some polishing, including new icons and a slightly improved disposition. The organization of the menu is something that goes beyond the Xfce menu and will benefit any distro in the long run." Read the full release announcement for further details.
