2025-11-12 Distribution Releases: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.1, 9.7
Red Hat, Inc. has released two updated versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) - 10.1, the first point release of the distribution's latest stable release, and 9.7, an updated build of RHEL's legacy 9.x branch. "During the excitement of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL) launch at Red Hat Summit, I kept hearing one question from customers and partners: When would an offline version of the RHEL command-line assistant be available? Today I can announce that it's on the way. As part of the RHEL 10.1 update, an offline, locally available command-line assistant is officially in developer preview. For customers with a Red Hat Satellite subscription, it offers AI-powered RHEL guidance based on decades of enterprise Linux experience. Companies and agencies in finance, government, defense, industrial control, and other heightened-security industries will find it particularly useful. A key advantage of this design is its ability to function in completely disconnected, offline, or air-gapped environments, eliminating the need for external network connectivity." See the What's new in RHEL 10.1 and Introducing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.7 blog posts for more details, with release notes for both RHEL 10.1 and RHEL 9.7 now also available. Both RHEL 10.1 (pkglist) and RHEL 9.7 (pkglist) can be downloaded from Red Hat's Customer and Developer portals.

2024-05-27 Distribution Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10
Red Hat has published a new update in the company's Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) product line, this one of the 8.x series. The new release, version 8.10, mostly introduces bug fixes and minor updates to the 8.x line. One interesting feature is a change to the behaviour of OpenSSH: "OpenSSH’s response after login failure is artificially delayed to prevent user enumeration attacks. This update introduces an upper limit so that such artificial delays do not become excessively long when remote authentication takes too long, for example in privilege access management (PAM) processing." Additional changes and important details can be found in the company's release notes for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10. The new version is available to individuals at no cost and can be downloaded through the company's Developer Portal. ISO files (pkglist) for RHEL range from 948MB to 1,326MB and are available in x86_64 and aarch64 builds.
2024-05-02 Distribution Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4
Red Hat, Inc. has announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.4, the latest stable release of the company's enterprise Linux platform available for the x86, ARM, IBM Power, IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE platforms: "Red Hat, Inc. today announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4, the latest version of the world's leading enterprise Linux platform. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 brings a wide range of new and enhanced capabilities to better manage the complexity of hybrid cloud computing in an increasingly AI-centric world, including refined management and automation and proactive support in building standard operating environments (SOEs) for distributed systems. Automation is increasingly a critical part of an operation team's toolbox, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 continues Red Hat's drive to make automation an integral part of modern Linux platforms. 9.4 further extends Red Hat Enterprise Linux system roles, deployment-ready Ansible content collections that help configure and launch common administrative tasks." See the press release and the detailed release notes for more information. RHEL 9.4 is available on its customer portal as a free upgrade, as a 60-day trial for potential new customers, or as a free download (pkglist) for registered developers.
2023-11-14 Distribution Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3
Red Hat has announced the release of a new update to its 9.x Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) product line. The new version, RHEL 9.3, introduces a few changes, including supporting UEFI environments in cloud instances. "Red Hat, Inc. today announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3 and the forthcoming availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9. The latest versions of the world's leading enterprise Linux platform fuel production container innovations, add new management services through Red Hat Insights and full support for Stratis as a system storage option. ... Previously, RHEL image builder created EC2 AMD or Intel 64-bit architecture AMIs images with support only for the legacy boot type. As a consequence, it was not possible to take advantage of certain AWS features requiring UEFI boot, such as secure boot. This enhancement extends the AWS EC2 AMD or Intel 64-bit architecture AMI image to support UEFI boot, in addition to the legacy BIOS boot. As a result, it is now possible to take advantage of AWS features which require booting the image with UEFI." The new release also makes it easier to select a specific kernel when installing on ARM processors. Additional information is provided in the company's press release and the product's release notes. Download options can be found on the product page (pkglist).
2023-05-11 Distribution Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2
Red Hat, Inc. has announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.2: "Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 and the forthcoming availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8. These new releases further Red Hat’s efforts to simplify and streamline complex Linux platform tasks across the hybrid cloud, from datacenters to public clouds to edge deployments, helping IT teams to better overcome staffing and skill shortages and improve efficiency in critical infrastructure areas. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 and 8.8 continue to expand the capabilities of system roles, Red Hat Enterprise Linux-specific Ansible content that helps bring greater consistency and efficiency at scale by automating common administrative tasks. This means that a number of common Linux roles, from Microsoft SQL Server to virtual private networks (VPNs), can be readily configured, credentialed and deployed with rudimentary Linux knowledge." See the press release and the detailed release notes for further information. RHEL 9.2 is available on its customer portal as a free upgrade, as a 60-day trial for potential new customers, or as a free download (pkglist) for registered developers.
2022-11-17 Distribution Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1
Gil Cattelain has announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.1: "RHEL 9.1 builds upon the previous enhancements introduced in version 9.0, including advanced automation and management features, such as the RHEL web console and system roles, which make it easier for customers to automate manual tasks, standardize deployments at scale and simplify the day-to-day administration of their systems. Enhanced capabilities added to RHEL 9.1 help simplify how customers manage system security and compliance when deploying new systems or managing existing infrastructure. Organizations can now take advantage of new Ansible tooling, access RHEL systems using identities stored in an external source, implement multilevel security (MLS) to match their needs and remotely verify the integrity of their operating system's boot environment. RHEL now gives you more time to plan your life cycle needs by supporting upgrade paths for two-year Extended Update Support (EUS) periods." Read the rest of the release announcement and the detailed release notes for more information. RHEL 9.1 is available as a 60-day trial edition or as a free download (pkglist) for registered individual developers.
