Baltix GNU/Linux was an Ubuntu-based distribution designed primarily for Lithuanian and Latvian speakers, as well as other users from Europe's Baltic region. Besides standard software found in an Ubuntu release, Baltix also includes a variety of educational programs, games, vector graphic and diagram drawing software, WINE integration for running Windows applications, office clipart, and internationalisation features for the supported languages.

Matthew Dawkins has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Unity Linux 2010, a minimalist distribution and live CD based on Mandriva Linux: "The Unity Linux project is pleased to announce its first candidate for release, 2010 RC1. We have taken the last nine weeks to provide many needed fixes and continual updates to the core offering of our software. Changelog: updated X.Org to 1.7.5; new kernel version 2.6.31.12; filetriggers and other minor bugs were fixed for rpm5; Smart 1.3 and the addition of smart-utils for mirror automation. The repositories now contain many up-to-date desktop environments which can be installed with the use of the 'task' meta-packages. Recent additions include KDE 4.4.1, GNOME 2.28.1, Openbox 3.4.11, Xfce 4.6.1, Enlightenment 0.16.999.063." Read the rest of the release announcement for additional notes. | The community-oriented Unity Linux is a minimalist distribution and live CD which was originally based on Mandriva Linux, but is now maintained as an independent distribution. The project's main goal is to create a base operating system from which more complete, user-oriented distribution can easily be built - either by other distribution projects or by the users themselves. Unity Linux uses Openbox as the default window manager. Its package management is handled via YUM and RPM 5 which can download and install additional software packages from the project's online repository.

Jon Dill has announced the availability of the first alpha release of Unity Linux 2012, a minimalist Mandriva-based distribution that can serve as a base for building custom products: "The developers at the Unity Linux project are pleased to announce a new alpha snapshot of the upcoming 2012 release in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. This release is the first in a while due to the fact that we have migrated all our repositories over to use the Mandriva ones. Much work has gone on to make sure that Unity and Smart work with upstream repositories at Mandriva. The 2010.2 release provides many updates to core packages, much more stability, and refinements to the core tools of the project, like mklivecd and unity-installer. Since our 2010.1 release the changes include: updated toolchain, OpenSSL, X.Org, Python, Mono, Smart, Drak tools, Linux kernel 2.6.35.7; addition of more than 2,000 packages; Xfce 4.6.2, KDE 4.5.1, GNOME 2.32.0, Openbox 3.4.11.2, E17 0.16.999.52995 and EFL beta libraries, as well as several proprietary video drivers for NVIDIA and ATI." The growing trend of developing Linux distribution featuring the latest Enlightenment 17 continues with the release of Unity Linux 2010_02 "Unite17": "We have another Unite17! A few sentences of the changes: brand-new exterior and interior, because I took the liberty of using the testing repositories. E17 at least not alpha, but beta - of course, there are still some annoying bugs, such as that if you want to start an application, which would need administrator rights, some incomprehensible error message appears; transparency works with minimum of memory while in use; the minimum system requirements at least PIII 900 MHz processor and at least 384 MB of RAM, OpenGL compatible graphics card; the CD image size is 2.5 GB, so it's not small; new Linux kernel (2.6.35.7), updated applications, and two new browser add-ons - Chrome TV plugin, which allows all the available Internet TV broadcast monitored, and an open-source YouTube video downloading add-on." Unity Linux is a Mandriva-based minimalist distribution with the Openbox window manager and Smart advanced package management tool. The project's main goal is to provide a core operating system upon which more complete solutions can be built. The first public development release was announced earlier today: "The Unity Linux project is pleased to announce its first beta release, 2010 Beta 1. Mandriva-based Unity Linux uses the MkLiveCD project, which allows developers to create their own distribution on top of a Unity Linux core. Nearly 7,000 packages are available after installation. In an effort to give distribution developers maximum flexibility, the core is kept small and usable, but not too basic.
