openKylin
openKylin is a Chinese desktop distribution which runs the Kylin and UKUI desktop environments. Both Wayland and X11 sessions are available out of the box. The project is a member of the Debian family and can use APT package management tools. It also features a custom package format which is combined with a custom, modern software centre. openKylin is also a proving ground for custom utilities which assist the user in managing the operating system.

VENENUX GNU/Linux is a Debian-based community distribution developed in South America and designed for Spanish-speaking users. The second release candidate for the upcoming version 0.8 was announced today. Changes: cleaner and more comfortable desktop theme; improved performance; "libre" Linux kernel 2.6.31.4; support for ext4 file system; addition of "Installation Mode" to the boot menu; addition of a light-weight window manager (Openbox) for underpowered computers; complete integration of OpenOffice.org into the KDE 3 desktop; improved hardware detection, especially for webcams; system installer improvements; addition of a formatting option in the USB installer; improvements in real-time features of multimedia applications; various application updates (GIMP 2.6.7, OpenOffice.org 3.1.1, Pidgin 2.6.2). Distribution Release: VENENUX GNU/Linux 0.8.2 |

A new version of VENENUX GNU/Linux, a 100% "libre" desktop distribution (with KDE 3.5.10) developed in Venezuela and based on Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, has been released. 0.8.2 is a "community" edition which was built from VENENUX 0.8 RC2 (the latest "official" release) and which was put together by the members of the distribution's user community. It includes various bug fixes and other changes for improved security. It also adds a complete VENENUX User Guide, the latest Gnash browser plugin, and several scientific applications (e.g. R, updated QGIS, Octave, Maxima, Gwyddion, WaveSurfer, Stellarium and Gebabbel). To maintain the "libre" nature of the distribution some programs, including Cinelerra and Avidemux, have been removed. Read the full release announcement (in Spanish) for additional details.
