Haiku

Matias Fonzo has announced the release of Dragora GNU/Linux 1.1, a 100% "libre" distribution based on the concept of simplicity and inspired by Slackware Linux: "Dragora GNU/Linux 1.1 is the evolution of its previous version 1.0. Notable changes in this version are: Linux Kernel 2.6.30.9 free; toolchain - Binutils 2.19.1, GCC 4.3.4, glibc 2.9, Coreutils 7.6, util-linux-ng 2.16.1; X.Org Server 1.6.4 and Mesa 7.5.2; the inclusion of KDE 4.3.1; new compression format based on the LZMA algorithm; support for Free Java and JavaScript through Icedtea6 and Rhino; support for Bluetooth and IrDA devices; support for printing with CUPS 1.3.11; support for the PCMCIA subsystem; new language support - Galician. It is worth mentioning the large environment such as KDE 4.3.1 (included on CD 2) and the numerous corrections and improvements in the packaging system and the Dragora system start-up." Dragora GNU/Linux-Libre is a distribution created from scratch with the intention of providing a stable, multi-platform and multi-purpose operating system. It is built upon 100% free software. The project has published its second beta release for version 3.0 (the previous beta was published about three years ago) which includes several updates and a migration from Python 2 to Python 3. "The performance has been greatly improved compared to -beta1. The hybrid live ISO creation has been enhanced. Now the ISO image includes all software packages to date, the initial screen where you can choose to run the current (full) version of the live system, or where you can install it on hard disk. It is worth mentioning that the password requirement has been removed. All Dragora tools have been improved, including better messaging and bug fixes in the code. Dragora now features the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE). The LLVM compiler (version 15.0.7) has been added to this beta, along with the Rust programming language (version 1.64.0). As part of version control systems, this beta now includes Fossil 2.20, Mercurial 6.4.2, cvs 1.12.13, rcs-5.10.1." Additional details are provided in the project's release announcement. Dragora GNU/Linux-Libre is a distribution created from scratch with the intention of providing a stable, multi-platform and multi-purpose operating system. It is built upon 100% free software. The project has published a new development snapshot, Dragora GNU/Linux-libre 3.0 Beta 1, which follows the 3.0 Alpha 1 that was published nearly two years ago. The new snapshot includes a new system installer, new package hardening using PIE, and Xfce 4.14. "Changes in this version: A new installer for this series has been introduced, it can be invoked from the command line as `dragora-installer'. A new tool (based on dialog(1)) has been introduced to configure the keyboard mapping in the console, it is called `dragora-keymap'. Our simple and friendly package manager has reached version 1.3, which contains minor changes and fixes. It is worth mentioning that Qi now uses `tarlz' to produce, list packages in parallel. Tarlz uses a simplified and safer variant of the POSIX pax format compressed with our favorite compressor "lzip". To complement the security in general, for binaries with PIE and SSP (both are default features in Dragora), they are now complemented with RELRO by default. The main toolchain has been upgraded. This -beta1 have Binutils 2.33.1, The GNU C Compiler 9, GNU Linux libre 4.19.78, and Musl 1.1.24. Additiona details can be found in the project's release announcement. MatÃas Fonzo has announced the availability of the first release candidate of Dragora GNU/Linux 1.1, an independent, i686-optimised distribution built exclusively from free software: "Dragora GNU/Linux 1.1 RC1, ready for use and testing. Still missing a few things to do: how to document the tools, update KDE (4.3 final) and make sure that everything is ready." According to the changelog, the most important changes in this release are updates of all programs included in Busybox, addition of Parted, switch to ext4 as the default file system, update of the services and daemons menu, inclusion of "wmconfig", removal of the package integrity check, and various minor enhancements.
