BeleniX
BeleniX was a UNIX distribution built from the OpenSolaris source base. It includes all the features of OpenSolaris, but also adds a whole variety of open source packages. It was a live CD that can also be installed to a hard disk. BeleniX was free to use, modify and distribute.

LliureX 9.09, an Ubuntu-based educational distribution developed by the Council of Culture, Education and Sport at the Municipality of Valencia in Spain, has been released. New features and software packages: a LliureX control centre that allows teachers to control the activity of students in the computer room, with support for thin clients; F-Spot - an application for managing digital images; Gobby - a collaborative editor; Gmount-ISO - a graphical utility for mounting ISO images; new tools for cleaning and restoring a desktop; new tools for creating educational digital objects, such as resource preparation, mind maps and desktop recordings; a new TrueType font installer; a set of new custom tools for configuring applications and for broadcasting audio and video.... Distribution Release: LliureX 11.09 |

LliureX, a project of the Council of Culture, Education and Sport at the Municipality of Valencia in Spain, is an Ubuntu-based distribution with support for Valencian (a dialect of Catalan) and Spanish. A new release, version 11.09, was announced earlier today. One of the major new features of this release is the possibility to upgrade the distribution from 10.09 without re-installing, so users already running LliureX 10.09 don't need to download the DVD image. LliureX 11.09 is based on Ubuntu 10.04, which is a long-term support release and LliureX users can also benefit from extended security support. Two LliureX editions were released today - "Escriptori" (Desktop) and "Infantil" with a number of new educational programs and other features. LliureX is an Edubuntu-based live DVD developed by the Council of Culture, Education and Sport at the Municipality of Valencia in Spain, designed for deployment in schools throughout the region. A new version, based on Edubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn", was announced yesterday. New features include: full support for Valencian and Spanish, with additional language modules for other regional languages of Spain, as well as English, French, German, Arabic, Russian and Romanian; improved hardware support and up-to-date software with two years of guaranteed security updates; GNOME 2.18 desktop, OpenOffice.org 2.2 office suite, Firefox 2.0 web browser and Linux kernel 2.6.20; new and more robust system of auto-configuration with a transparent installation of configuration files. LliureX is a project of the Council of Culture, Education and Sport at the Municipality of Valencia, Spain. The LliureX distribution is a KNOPPIX-based live and installation CD with support for Valencian (a language very similar to Catalan) and Spanish. It is intended as an operating system for educational institutions in the Valencia region. LliureX uses exclusively Free Software and is distributed free of charge. The project's inaugural version was released yesterday, during the Congress of Free Software of the Community of Valencia.
