Tariq Shureih has announced the availability of the second alpha release of Moblin 2, an Intel-sponsored Linux distribution for netbooks and mobile devices: "Alpha 2 is an update that includes many fixes and enhancement to the Alpha 1 that we released few weeks ago. This release includes: updated UI libraries (Clutter, etc.); updated graphics subsystem with KMS early integration; updated Moblin system services; support for the MSI Wind; updated ConnMan with many improvements and bug fixes; updated and enhanced boot process, inter-process, and package interactions; many updates to the OS libraries; updated Xfce (4.6.0); updated to Linux kernel 2.6.29-rc7; GNOME 2.26 RC release; updated Moblin Image Creator (MIC2); development for software and applications for Moblin; many other fixes." About Moblin
|
Moblin is an open source project focused on building a Linux-based platform optimised for mobile devices including netbooks, mobile Internet devices, and in-vehicle infotainment systems. The central piece of the architecture is an independent layer that provides one uniform way to develop such devices. Underneath the Moblin Core sits the Linux kernel and device drivers specific to the hardware platform, and above the Moblin Core are the specific user interface and user interaction model for the target device.

Imad Sousou has announced the release of Moblin 2.1, a Linux distribution optimised for Intel Atom-based netbooks: "The Moblin project steering committee today announces the project release of Moblin 2.1 for Intel Atom processor-based netbooks and nettops. This project release includes the broadest feature additions, customer requested improvements, and overall polish to date. With this community release you will see significant feature additions and improvements including enhanced browser functionality and plug-in support, UI enhancements, support for 3G data connections, Bluetooth device management, input method support for localized languages, integrated application installer for the Moblin Garage, performance and stability improvements, and additional overall help and documentation. In addition to the various new features, this new version of Moblin includes several hundred bug fixes and incorporates feedback from users and the developer community."
