Cucumber Linux
Cucumber Linux aims to provide a Linux distribution that was usable as an every day, general purpose operating system. It aims to this in as minimalistic a way as possible and in a way that follows the Unix Philosophy. Cucumber Linux favors simplicity and modularity of design over simplicity of use. While developed independently, Cucumber's design was heavily influenced by Slackware Linux.

UTUTO 2009, a 100% free, Gentoo-based distribution and live DVD made in Argentina, has been released. This is the first time the distribution is provided as a live DVD with a graphical system installer. Other major new features include: support for Apple MacBook and Mac mini laptops; support for ASUS Eee PC and MSI Wind netbooks; support for GPRS and 3G network connections; Linux kernel 2.6.28.1 with improved hardware detection and better suspend and hibernation support; modified the graphics rendering algorithm for the X server in order to improve performance; improved detection of video cards with support for graphics acceleration; various minor improvements in the boot system and graphical installer. UTUTO GNU/Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution (Gentoo-based before version 2017) developed by at the Universidad Nacional de Salta in Argentina. Named after a fidgety local lizard that pokes its nose into every hole, UTUTO is a high-performance desktop system designed to be used by home and office users, developers, organisations and government officials.

Daniel Olivera has announced the release of UTUTO 2011, a new version of the Gentoo-based distribution and live DVD featuring four desktop environments. This release comes with a multitude of improvements, including: a new Linux "super kernel" with hundreds of extra patches and modules; super-fast system boot; two supported installation methods (DVD and USB), installable live system; extended hardware support; intelligent system auto-configuration; improved network card support with 100% connection success for Ethernet, 3G, Bluetooth and wireless connection types; integrated Java support with OpenJDK; virtualisation with video acceleration integrated with the desktop; 3D desktop by default without hardware acceleration; four desktop environments to choose from (GNOME, KDE, LXDE and Xfce).... A new version of UTUTO, the only free (libre) distribution, as endorsed by Richard Stallman of the Free Software Foundation, has been released. Based on Gentoo Linux, UTUTO is put together by a group of developers in Argentina. The latest release is the result of 4 months of development and testing with ISO images for several popular processor types now available for free download. The developers are also planning to build a set of live CDs at a later date. Here is the complete release announcement (in Spanish). The ISO images can be found in this directory; here is a quick link to the i686 image: UTUTO-XS-2005.1-i686.iso (702MB). Although the UTUTO web site is in Spanish, the distribution also supports English, Italian and Portuguese languages.
