Andrew Gillis has announced the release of trixbox 2.6.2.2, a CentOS-based distribution featuring the popular, open-source PBX and telephony platform called Asterisk: "I just released trixbox 2.6.2.2. This is a roll-up release with a bunch of bug fixes and the latest version of all our packages. All trixbox users are recommended to upgrade to this release. This release resolves the problems with the package manager not working and some PSTN cards causing kernel panic when the system is rebooted. There are also a number of small GUI fixes and enhancements. I also added support for some of the new Realtek network chipsets that are not supported by CentOS 5.2. For existing systems please do a yum update from command line: 'yum update trixbox'; this will get the fixes to the GUI and the package manager. You can also update ZapTel to get the kernel panic fix." Here is the brief release announcement. Download (MD5): trixbox-2.6.2.2.iso (573MB).

Development Release: trixbox 2.8 Beta |
Andrew Gillis has announced that availability of the first beta release of trixbox 2.8, a CentOS-based Linux distribution that enables the user to quickly set up a VoIP Asterisk PBX. From the announcement "We have been testing Asterisk 1.6 and DAHDI (the replacement for ZapTel) since they came out last year. Digium has worked hard on 1.6 with a lot of attention paid to reliability and scalability. I am happy to say our testing shows Asterisk 1.6 is ready for prime time! We are still working out what will be in the next major release of trixbox but it's clear Asterisk 1.6 will be part of it. So now we need to get as much real world testing as possible on 1.6. This BETA is trixbox 2.6 with Asterisk 1.6. There are no other new features in the first BETA of trixbox 2.8. We will add more features as we go. The status screen doesn't work in this release so don't be alarmed when it shows Asterisk as stopped." Here is the brief release announcement. Download (MD5): trixbox-2.8.0-BETA.iso (595MB).

Distribution Release: trixbox 2.4.0 |
The developers of trixbox, a CentOS-based specialist distribution that enables the user to easily set up a VoIP Asterisk PBX, have announced the release of version 2.4.0: "This set is the latest version of trixbox CE. This is a major change from trixbox 2.2 in that it is based on CentOS 5.1, Asterisk 1.4, and FreePBX 2.3. One problem with trixbox CE 2.x is the lack of hardware support for current systems, especially newer Dell platforms. The vast majority of this has been solved because trixbox CE 2.4 is now based on top of the latest CentOS 5.1 kernel. This now provides support for a much larger number of motherboards, network cards and components, such as hardware RAID controllers. CentOS 5.1 also has high resolution timers built into the kernel so the need for hardware timers on the PCI bus should no longer be required." Read the full press release for further details. Distribution Release: trixbox 1.2.2 |
A new, bug-fix version of trixbox has been released: "Trixbox users have been reporting stability problem with 1.2. We are trying to address these with the 1.2.2 release. There are some strange audio problems with the 42 kernel. This is most apparent with VMware. When the 42 kernel is used the audio prompts are jittery and broken. This was not a problem with the 34 kernel. I am making the 34 kernel the standard for trixbox until further notice. The version of Asterisk 1.2.12.1 that is included with the 1.2.1 trixbox patch has a lot of the Asterisk patch files from Digium and other sources included. This may have caused some of the instability and FreePBX reload issues that were reported. The Asterisk 1.2.12.1 that is included with 1.2.2 has only 4 patches." Full details in the release announcement. Download: trixbox-1.2.2.iso (535MB, MD5).
