Project development Enlightenment verbose (Project dEv)
The mission for Project dEv was to create a stable and secure Linux distribution based on the lightweight window manager Enlightenment, with the latest of hardware detection technology to make sure your hardware was detected and configured as quickly as possible with minimal amount of effort. dEv aims to use and extend the EFL. By this, the KDE and GNOME dependencies are made obsolete while the feature richness and speed of the window manager increases. dEv wants to bring all the eye candy and speed which Enlightenment gives to a more cleanly manner by placing Enlightenment inside its own directory.

About Linux Mint

It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface. Linux Mint is compatible with Ubuntu software repositories. Distribution Release: Linux Mint 21.1 |
The Linux Mint team have announced the release of Linux Mint 21.1 "Vera". The new release makes handling Flatpak packages smoother, integrating Flatpak support into the update manager and making it easier to work with both traditional deb packages and Flatpaks in the software centre. "Flatpak support was added to the Update Manager. Flatpak applications and runtimes can be updated like any other supported types of software. The Software Manager features a refreshed user interface which makes it easier to distinguish between Flatpaks and system packages. When looking at an application which is available both as a system package and a Flatpak, you can switch back and forth between its two versions. New Flatpaks from Flathub are automatically added to the Software Manager on a daily basis." These and other changes are covered in the project's What's New documents for each edition (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce) and further information is provided through the distribution's release announcements (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce). Distribution Release: Linux Mint 21 |
The Linux Mint team have announced a new version of its Ubuntu-based distribution, Linux Mint 21. The new version swaps out the old Blueberry Bluetooth software in favour of Blueman, improvements have been made to the Sticky Notes application to make it easier to identify different notes, and there is a new process monitor which will indicate to the user when automated tasks are consuming system resources. "Automated tasks are great to keep your computer safe but they can sometimes affect the system's performance while you're working on it. A little process monitor was added to Linux Mint to detect automated updates and automated system snapshots running in the background. Whenever an automated task is running the monitor places an icon in your system tray. Your computer might still become slow momentarily during an update or a snapshot, but with a quick look on the tray you'll immediately know what's going on." A more complete list of changes can be found in the release announcement for each edition (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce) and in the What's New documents (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce). Distribution Release: Linux Mint 5 "LMDE" |
Clement Lefebvre has announced the release of a brand-new version of Linux Mint's Debian edition, better known as LMDE. The new release is based on Debian 11 and uses the Cinnamon desktop: "The team is proud to announce the release of LMDE 5 'Elsie'." The release announcement contains a brief introduction to LMDE, while the release notes provide a list of known issues: "To launch the installer in expert mode, run the following command: sudo live-installer-expert-mode. To install LMDE on an existing LVM partition you must first remove it from the LVM volumes and groups to which it belongs. In manual partitioning mode, note that the installer will auto-mount all swap partitions. These partitions will also be placed in /etc/fstab in the installed system. The LMDE ISO images and the live installer use a different structure than the ones used by other distributions. Do not use Yumi or multi-boot technologies with LMDE as it won't install properly. The root account is locked by default. To use the recovery console (from the Grub menu) or log in as root, you first need to give root a new password: sudo passwd root." Development Release: Linux Mint 5 Beta "LMDE" |
The Linux Mint team have announced the availability of a development snapshot for Linux Mint's "Debian Edition" (LMDE). The new beta brings the project's Debian-based branch up to date with features from its main (Ubuntu-based) branch. "LMDE is a Linux Mint project which stands for "Linux Mint Debian Edition". Its goal is to ensure Linux Mint would be able to continue to deliver the same user experience, and how much work would be involved, if Ubuntu was ever to disappear. LMDE is also one of our development targets, to guarantee the software we develop is compatible outside of Ubuntu. LMDE aims to be as similar as possible to Linux Mint, but without using Ubuntu. The package base is provided by Debian instead. Known issues: to launch the installer in expert mode, run the sudo live-installer-expert-mode command; in manual partitioning mode the installer will automount all swap partitions; these partitions will also be placed in /etc/fstab in the installed system; the LMDE ISO images and the live installer use a different structure than the ones used by other distributions; do not use Yumi or multiboot technologies with LMDE as it won't install properly." The release notes offer tips for setting up LMDE, fixes for common issues, and tips for running on older, 32-bit computers. Distribution Release: Linux Mint 20.2 |
Clement Lefebvre has announced the release of Linux Mint 20.2, the latest update of the popular desktop-oriented distribution with a choice of Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce desktops. The new version, based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, brings various improvements to Update Manager and Notification Centre, as well as new applications, such as Bulk File Renamer and Sticky Notes: "The Update Manager now supports Cinnamon spice updates (i.e. updates for applets, desklets, themes and extensions). Although they're technically different than APT updates, they are presented to you in a very similar manner. You can see the same kind of information for them, and enjoy the same features as you did already, such as the ability to blacklist a particular spice or a version of a spice. You can also automate spice updates. In automatic mode spices are upgraded shortly after you log in and the desktop environment then gets refreshed." See the release announcement (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce), release notes (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce) and what's new pages (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce) for more information.
