MoLinux is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla la Mancha in Spain. The first beta release of the upcoming MoLinux 4.0, now based on Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron", is available for download and testing. For this release, the developers have added a number of new applications, such as Cheese (a program for taking photos and videos with a webcam), Preload (a utility that accelerates the start-up of frequently used applications), Vinagre (a VNC client), SBackup and others. There is also an improved way of setting up graphic modes, while all of the previously included software packages have been updated to newer versions. This beta is considered feature complete. Distribution Release: MoLinux 6.2 |

MoLinux 6.2, an Ubuntu-based distribution sponsored by the Spanish regional government of Castilla-La Mancha and deployed extensively in the region's public administration offices and schools, has been released. Some of the most important features of the new version include: based on Ubuntu 10.10; new window design for the log-in screen; new icon theme (GNOME-Wine); hardware compatibility improvements; latest versions of applications included in the distributions; new applications and utilities such as JDownloader, a download manager, Gnome Subtitles, a subtitle editor, support for 7zip file compression in File Roller; miscellaneous improvements added to existing applications such as Nanny, a parental control utility or Hamster Applet, a time manager. MoLinux 6.0 "Zoraida" is a new version of the Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla La Mancha in Spain and designed for use in public offices and schools around the region. The release comes with the following enhancements: new login, splash and start screens; new icon theme (GNOME-wise) as well as panel and window theme (New Wave); improved hardware compatibility; latest versions of applications included in the distribution; new software and utilities, such as Nanny (parental control), Hamster Applet (time management), KeePassX (password management), Sinadura (an application for digital signing of PDF documents), Prism (for launching web applications independently of a browser); also included are MolinuxSync (an application for synchronising group work), XBMC multimedia centre, Ubuntu One.... The MoLinux project has announced the start of the development process for MoLinux 6.0 (code name "Zoraida"), an Ubuntu-based distribution sponsored by the Spanish regional government of Castilla la Mancha and optimised for use in local educational institutions and government offices. According to the release announcement (in Spanish), the main features of the new release are improvements in hardware support and addition of new programs. These include Hamster Applet (time manager), KeePassX (password manager), Sinadura (application for PDF digital signing) and Prism (a browser that hosts web applications without the normal web browser user interface). This release also comes with a new icon set (GNOME-Wise) and window theme (New Wave). Most software packages have been updated to newer versions. Some of the more important new features in this version include: addition of the XMBC media centre for controlling music, videos and photos in one central application; new design of the boot, splash and GDM login screens; addition of transparencies to window edges of open applications; hardware compatibility improvements; ext4 as the default file system; version upgrades of most included software programs; addition of MolinuxSync, a tool for synchronising group work data; inclusion of Psychosynth, an interactive and modular music synthesiser.... Code-named "Dorotea", in reference to a pretty girl in Cervantes' Don Quijote de la Mancha, MoLinux 5.0 is distributed as an installable live DVD. New features: improved hardware support and boot speed; optional ext4 file system support; connectivity improvements with the latest version of NetworkManager; newest versions of most of the included applications. MoLinux 4.2, an Ubuntu-based, general-purpose distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla La Mancha in Spain, has been released. Code named Toboso, the new release of MoLinux is based on Ubuntu 8.10, which means that most of the included applications have been upgraded to their latest versions; these include Linux kernel 2.6.27, X.Org Server 1.5.2, GNOME 2.24.1, Firefox 3.0.5 and OpenOffice.org 3.0.0. The distribution's artistic team has delivered new desktop backgrounds depicting images from the autonomous community and some abstract designs, as well as brand new icons for the panels, menus and desktop. An interesting new feature is a new backup manager that automates backing up of data to external devices or over the local network. MoLinux 3.2 final, code name "Hidalgo", has been released. MoLinux is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla la Mancha in Spain. The new version is based on Ubuntu 7.10 and comes with the following main components: Linux kernel 2.6.22, GNOME 2.20; Evolution 2.12.1; OpenOffice.org 2.3 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.10. Some of the new features include improved hardware support, data and settings migration assistant, system restore feature, NTFS read and write support, database converter from Microsoft Access to OpenOffice.org Base, improved Spanish translation, Amaya web development environment, and other features.
