Vincent Danen has announced the release of Annvix 3.0, a Mandriva-based, secure Linux distribution designed for servers: "Annvix 3.0-RELEASE (Freya) is now available! Today marks the fifth public release of the Annvix Linux distribution; this version is the fruit of almost a year's worth of hard work. We believe that 3.0-RELEASE is the best version of Annvix available. It is recommended that everyone using 2.0-RELEASE upgrade, as it is no longer supported. Some of the new features include: 2.6.22.15 kernel with AppArmor support (RSBAC is no longer supported); updated services, including PHP 5.2.5, MySQL 5.0.51, PostgreSQL 8.2.5, Apache 2.2.6, and Samba 3.0.28; many other upgraded system packages, including glibc 2.6.1." Vincent Danen has announced the release of Annvix 2.0, a Mandriva-based, server-oriented and security-enhanced Linux distribution: "Today marks the fourth public release of the Annvix Linux distribution. It was exactly 50 weeks ago when 1.2-RELEASE was made available; this version is the fruit of almost a year's worth of hard work. Some of the new features include: 2.6.16.39 kernel with RSBAC and AppArmor support; updated services including PHP 5.2.0, MySQL 5.0.27, PostgreSQL 8.2.1, and Apache 2.2.4; a greatly enhanced installer; a completely overhauled init system; the use of the tcb suite for authentication; the use of apt-rpm as the default package manager...." Most of the changes since 1.1 were made to the development process; however it includes some updated software and security fixes. It is recommended that everyone using 1.1 upgrade soon as it is no longer supported. Some of the features include: 2.4.32 kernel with the Openwall Linux kernel patch and RSBAC support; updated services including OpenSSH 4.3p2, runit 1.3.3, PostgreSQL 8.0.7, PHP 4.4.2, and Apache 2.0.55...." Annvix (formerly OpenSLS) is a secure Linux server operating system based on Mandriva Linux. The project's second stable release, version 1.1, is out: "Annvix 1.1-RELEASE is now available. 'Netinstall' ISO images are available for x86 and x86_64 on the mirror sites. Using the netinstall method, when you perform your install, your system will be 100% up to date. This is a personal project that I am embarking on as I have a strong interest in a secure Linux-based OS that is easy to use and maintain ('urpmi' has spoiled me). Unfortunately, this type of product is not on Mandriva's radar at the moment so I'm essentially scratching my own itch." The first stable version was released today: "Roughly a year and a half since its conception, and 15 months after its first CVS commit, I am proud to announce that Annvix 1.0-RELEASE, the first non-beta release of Annvix, is available. ... Some of the features of Annvix 1.0-RELEASE include: 2.4.29 kernel with the Openwall Linux kernel patch and frandom support; GCC 3.3.1 with SSP support; glibc 2.3.2 with SSP and crypt_blowfish support; init services handled by runit rather than SysVinit and initscripts; services including MySQL 4.0.10a, PostgreSQL 8.0.1, Apache 2.0.53, Exim 4.50, OpenSSH 4.0p1." A new development version of the Mandrake-based Annvix distribution (formerly OpenSLS) has been released: "On the day of Linux's 13th birthday, I'd like to announce the release of Annvix 1.0-CURRENT alpha 2. Annvix 1.0-CURRENT alpha 2 finalizes our installation system with a new net-install ISO based on our 2.4 Linux kernel. It also provides support for RSBAC in the kernel, as well as a number of package updates, a more robust srv handler for handling supervised services, and the use of OpenSwan rather than FreeSWAN. The OpenSLS project aims to create a hardened and secured server Linux distribution based on Mandrakelinux. A new alpha release is now available: "I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of OpenSLS 1.0-CURRENT alpha1. This is a full ISO image of the entire OpenSLS distribution with a (currently still alpha and x86-only) installer. OpenSLS (or Open Secure Linux Server) is a personal project that began on November 30th, 2003 and has been a less-than-part-time endeavour to make a Linux operating system based on Mandrakelinux secure. With the ultimate goal of making an easy-to-use Linux distribution with ideals similar to those found in OpenBSD and Openwall, this is the first big step in OpenSLS to reach that end."
