Geubuntu is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution that combines the power of GNOME and the beauty of Enlightenment into an eye-catching and efficient desktop. Version 7.10, code name "Luna Nuova", was released today: "Geubuntu 7.10 'Luna Nuova' has been released. There has been a huge amount of restyling and improvements since 'Prima Luna'. Many suggestions by users in the forums have been implemented: you can now switch from Sunshine to Moonlight edition instantly from the live CD or an installed system, with a single click! That's why there's no need for two ISO files any more. Geubuntu is now also faster, since it uses Thunar instead of Nautilus and Xfce panel instead of GNOME panel. You can also upgrade any previous Geubuntu Prima Luna installation from packages." Here is the full release announcement. Download (MD5): geubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso (697MB, torrent).

Distribution Release: OpenGEU 8.10 |
Luca De Marini has announced the release of OpenGEU 8.10, an Ubuntu-based distribution and live CD featuring the Enlightenment 17 window manager: "OpenGEU 8.10 live CD released. As we already said in the previous announcements, this is not a major release. Luna Serena has been considered by our team as a development and testing playground for the upcoming version, 'Quarto di Luna', which will be based on Ubuntu 'Jaunty'. Nevertheless, while working on this version we developed a big number of improvements to OpenGEU. Here's a list of changes: OpenGEU is now using our own E17 settings manager; the OpenGEU themes manager now controls even more parts of the desktop look; the Places module shows and auto-mounts any device connected to your box; new wizard will help customizing your Enlightenment session...." This is a very important day for our team and project, this release is a milestone. Compared to the old OpenGEU 'Luna Nuova', we have a lot of new enhancements for you to enjoy: the new OpenGEU themes manager (geutheme), an incredible tool able to change every part of the desktop with a mouse click; two full-featured and completely new OpenGEU themes, using the Murrine GTK engine; eTrayer, a new system tray developed by our team; many new modules, like Extramenu, Trash bin and more; the latest E17 desktop shell available...." Development Release: OpenGEU 8.04 Beta |
The current stable Ubuntu combined with the latest Enlightenment 17 - that's OpenGEU 8.04, whose first beta was announced yesterday: "The i386 beta live CD of OpenGEU 8.04 'Luna Crescente' is here. Download it, seed it, spread it and install it if you don't have OpenGEU yet. Or you can just upgrade from a previous OpenGEU system following our guide. If you prefer, install our distribution from packages. The Beta release is somehow a release candidate and I'm going to build a live CD for 64-bit machines too. The new Ubuntu is close and this release is getting somehow weird in timing but fear not, it is a great release and it works really fine, there has been tons of updates and new software. Enjoy the great work of the OpenGEU team and thanks to every single member who made developing a user friendly E17 system possible!" Here is the brief release announcement. Download the live CD image via BitTorrent (link in the announcement).

Development Release: OpenGEU 8.04 Alpha |
The first development build of OpenGEU 8.04, a desktop distribution combining the latest Ubuntu with the Enlightenment window manager, is out and ready for testing: "This is the official OpenGEU 8.04 'Luna Crescente' alpha release. In this release there has been a big number of changes on the software side, a lot of new tools and E17 modules, many of which have been developed by our team. Since OpenGEU Luna Nuova, a lot has changed - there's no extra panel in OpenGEU, no fbpanel and no GNOME panel. The user will be able to find any GNOME tools needed in the very convenient OpenGEU menu entry of the E17 menu. The system tray can be found on the lower right corner of the screen thanks to trayer. The alpha version is already fully working." Here is the brief release announcement. Download the installable live CD image via BitTorrent: opengeu-8.04-desktop-i386-alpha.iso (615MB, MD5).
