ASPLinux has announced the availability of ASPLinux 12, a new major release of the Fedora-based Russian distribution. The most significant new feature in this version is the "works out-of-the-box" philosophy, with common audio and video codecs, ATI and NVIDIA proprietary video drivers, and files enabling full support for Russian throughout the system, all provided as an integral part of the package. Also included is a graphical system administration utility that allows users of all skill levels to be instantly productive. As for the system components, ASPLinux 12 uses Linux kernel 2.6.22 and includes X.Org 7.1, GNOME 2.18, KDE 3.5.7, OpenOffice.org 2.3.0, Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5, GIMP 2.2.17 and other popular open source software. Distribution Release: ASPLinux 14 |
|
ASPLinux, a Russian company developing Linux solution and providing a variety of Linux services, has announced the release of ASPLinux 14, code name "Cobalt". The latest version of this Fedora-based distribution promises to expand the functionality of Linux as an operating system with new services, such as Linux telephony, support for webcams, full support for sleep and stand-by modes on laptops, automatic network setup, and easy configuration of GPRS, CDMA and VPN services. The product uses Linux kernel 2.6.26 and glibc 2.8, and ships with X.Org server 1.5, GNOME 2.22, KDE 4.1, OpenOffice.org 3.0, Firefox 3.0 and other popular open source applications. It also includes several non-free device drivers, including ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers, and non-free software, such as Adobe Flash player and Opera. Distribution Release: ASP Linux 11 |

ASP Linux 11 has been released. Some of the more prominent features of the new version include: simplicity - all the necessary applications are included and ready for use without any further configuration, irrespective of the purpose of the system; convenience - the presence of graphical configuration tools makes it easy to modify system settings, install and remove software, etc; broad multimedia support, including out-of-the box support for all popular video formats and availability of proprietary video drivers. ASP Linux ships with kernel 2.6.14, KDE 3.5.0, GNOME 2.12, Firefox 1.5 and Evolution 2.4.1. For more information please read the release announcement (in Russian). Development Release: ASP Linux 11 Beta |

The developers of Russia's ASP Linux have announced the beginning of a new beta testing period, leading towards the release of version 11. Based on Fedora Core 4, but inclusive of many bug-fixes and more up-to-date packages (kernel 2.6.14, KDE 3.5.0, GNOME 2.12, and Firefox 1.5), the company is now seeking beta testers willing to test-drive the new release. Testing will last until 10 January and bugs, together with detailed system information, should be submitted to Bugzilla. More information can be found in the release announcement (in Russian). The beta release of ASP Linux 11 comes on four CDs and is available for free download from the distribution's main FTP server and a number of mirrors.

Distribution Release: ASP Linux 10 |

ASP Linux 10, code name "Karelia", has been released. ASP Linux is a Russian distribution based on Fedora Core. The latest release has been developed with three main characteristics in mind - it should be immediately usable out of the box, most of system configuration should be achieved via a graphical interface, and it should support a wide range of multimedia formats, including DVD, mpeg4 and mp3 playback. It has been built on top of a Linux kernel 2.6.9, and it includes GNOME 2.8.1, KDE 3.3.1, OpenOffice.org 1.1.2, Firefox 1.0, Novell Evolution 2.0.2, and many other applications. Development Release: ASPLinux 10 Beta |

ASPLinux has announced the availability of a beta release of ASPLinux 10. The new version is based on Fedora Core, which the company considers to be the highest quality distribution with frequent updates. The major components are: Linux kernel 2.6.8, glibc 2.3.3, GCC 3.3.3, Xorg-X11 6.8.1, GNOME 2.8.0, KDE 3.3.0, Mozilla 1.7.3, Evolution 2.0.2. ASP Linux strives to release only well-tested and bug-free products. Due to the fact that the company's development and testing resources are limited, interested public is invited to join in the beta testing process of the new distribution release. Testing will last until November 1st and bugs should be reported in the Bugzilla. This is the full press release (in Russian). The long overdue release of ASP Linux 9.2, code name "Siberia" is finally released and available for download. The new version comes in four editions - Deluxe, Standard, Express and Greenhorn, the last of which is a live CD. The product is designed for general use as an office or home workstation, server or development platform, with many new packages, support for Bluetooth, hardware auto-detection and other new features. Distribution Release: ASP Linux 7.3 |

ASP Linux, a Singapore-founded Russian-developed Linux distribution based on Red Hat has announced immediate availability of ASP Linux 7.3, code named "Vostok". The announcement has only been made in Russian at the time of writing. Improved installation, hardware compatibility and security as well as convenient software updates via "yum" and many updated packages (KDE 3.0.2, OpenOffice.org 1.0.
