Turbolinux has announced the final release of Turbolinux 11 Server, a commercial Linux distribution designed for mid-range enterprises, with long-term support. Some of the features include: improved performance and security with the incorporation of the Tomoyo Linux security system; incorporation of the Zend Framework for building PHP-based web applications; inclusion of an enterprise-class load balancing software; long-term maintenance support, including security updates and service packs for the period of 3 or 5 years; advanced diagnosis of hardware compatibility for companies migrating from Windows or Solaris; improved system interoperability with Microsoft products. Distribution Release: Turbolinux 12.5 |

Turbolinux, Inc., one of the world's oldest surviving Linux companies, has announced the release of Turbolinux Client 12.5, a Japanese operating system for desktops and embedded systems. This is the first update of the distribution since the release of version 12 in November 2007 and, like its predecessor, it comes with extended support (three years of maintenance followed by four years of security support). Turbolinux 12.5 uses Linux kernel 3.1.10 and it includes KDE 3.5.9, X.Org Server 1.4.0.90, Firefox 14.0.1, Thunderbird 14.0 and more software found in the distribution's online repository, such as LibreOffice 3.5.5. Japan's Turbolinux has announced the availability of Turbolinux 12 (marketing name: Turbolinux Client 2008 Net User Package), a commercial, user-friendly desktop Linux distribution that combines the best of open source and proprietary software in one compact package. The system is based on a Linux kernel 2.6.24.7 (co-developed at Mambo-Labs in cooperation with Mandriva) and includes KDE 3.5.8 as the default desktop, ATOK X3 Japanese input method, StarSuite office suite, NVIDIA and ATI proprietary graphics drivers, a software update tool and other conveniences. Development Release: Turbolinux 12 Beta |

Turbolinux has announced the release of Turbolinux 12 Client edition (marketing name: Turbolinux 2008 Client), a desktop Linux distribution targeted at Japanese-speaking users. This is the first time a Turbolinux release comes in the form of an installable live CD, with the major components being Linux kernel 2.6.24.4 (co-developed with Mandriva at Mambo Labs), KDE 3.5.9 as the default desktop, X.Org 1.4.0.90, glibc 2.7 and Tomoyo Linux as the distribution's security framework. The live CD includes freely distributable software only, but the commercial edition, scheduled for release in September 2008, will include a so-called Net User Package, a collection of value-added applications, such as the ATOK Japanese input method editor, popular media codecs, extra TrueType fonts and the StarSuite office suite. The language support on the live CD and in the Anaconda system installer is limited to Japanese only.

Development Release: Turbolinux 11 Beta "Server" |

Turbolinux has announced the availability of a public beta release of Turbolinux 11 Server, a mid-range commercial distributions for servers with long-term support. It is primarily designed for organisations that need a fully-supported operating system for web, mail, proxy, DNS and file servers. The distribution, available for i686 and x86_64 architectures, is based on the 2.6.22 Linux kernel and includes X.Org 7.3, Xfce desktop 4.2.1, Apache web server 2.2.6, Postfix mail server 2.4.5, BIND DNS server 9.4.1, and the usual Turbolinux utilities, such as the convenient security update function. The beta testing is expected to last for 30 days while the final release of Turbolinux 11 Server is scheduled for the end of November. Turbolinux has announced the immediate availability of an international edition of its successful desktop-oriented operating system, also known as "Turbolinux 11 Fuji". Originally launched in Japan in November 2005, some of the key features of the new release include: "Expanded Control Center features; wireless LAN capacity; automatic updates for security patches; enhanced broadband features, including Windows Media Playback and Flash Player; and development tools such as JAVA and several other state-of-the-art functions for personal and business users." Turbolinux 11, code name "Fuji", has been formally released in Japan. The new version is based on kernel 2.6.13 with KDE 3.4.2 as its default desktop. It features improved compatibility with Windows for seamless integration into mixed-OS environments, better support for Japanese input and fonts, StarOffice 8, and real-time virus protection against Windows viruses. Turbolinux FUJI retails for ¥16,800, although a "Basic" edition (without StarOffice, ATOK Japanese input and anti-virus software) is also available for ¥5,800. An international edition of Turbolinux 11 is expected to be launched shortly. Development Release: Turbolinux 10 Preview (x86_64) |

Turbolinux has released a freely downloadable preview edition of Turbolinux 10 for AMD64 and EM64T processors: "Turbolinux 10 for AMD64/EM64T is a Linux OS compatible with 64-bit CPUs. Its launch is scheduled for the end of the month using our latest server OS Turbolinux 10 Server as a base. Users will be able to take full advantage of the capability and high performance of the newer 64-bit CPU's without losing the ability to run legacy 32-bit applications. Newly built applications will be free from 32-bit memory and I/O limitations. Turbolinux expects the advantages of the 64-bit platform to drive further expansion in the Linux market." Today is the official release date of Turbolinux 10 Server in Japan, as announced earlier this month: "Turbolinux will release three packages of 10 Server for the Japanese market only starting on October 29, 2004: Turbolinux 10 Server for US$360.00 includes 90-day unlimited installation e-mail support; Turbolinux 10 Server, with support, for US$890.00 includes one-year unlimited installation and configuration support; and Turbolinux 10 Server, Developer Edition, for US$89.00 includes 90-day unlimited e-mail support, though new user creation and user password modification are not available with this option. Customers worldwide will be able to purchase Turbolinux 10 Server, International Version, for USD$299.00 beginning on December 3, 2004."
