Recovery Is Possible (RIP) was a Slackware-based CD or floppy boot/rescue/backup/maintenance system. It has support for a lot of filesystem types (Reiserfs, Reiser4, ext2/3, iso9660, UDF, XFS, JFS, UFS, HPFS, HFS, MINIX, MS DOS, NTFS, and VFAT) and contains a bunch of utilities for system recovery. It also has IDE/SCSI/SATA, PCMCIA, RAID, LVM2, and Ethernet/DSL/cable/PPP/PPPOE network support.

StartCom Enterprise Linux, a distribution built from source RPM packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, has been updated to version 4.0.4: "Ahead of a busy spring season and in anticipation of new StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5 and StartCom MultiMedia Edition ML-6 comes an updated release of the Advanced Server 4 series. The fifth release of this enterprise class operating system is the natural combined continuation of the previously released AS-4 distribution, which includes security updates and minor adjustments. Notable are an updated kernel, security updates for PHP, Firefox and Thunderbird, but also some additions and improvements for smart cards and hardware tokens." This update release provides various enhancements for virtualization, encryption, cluster storage, but also desktop improvements. The Xen hypervisor makes the running of multiple virtualized server instances with its performance improvements and live-migration support for fully virtualized guests more efficient and reliable. Added kernel features include new asynchronous kernel crypto hardware driver APIs which were backported from the upstream kernel. Also new is the OpenSwan package which supports IKE 2 for IPv6. This OS is now much more compatible and in par with the StartCom AS-5 series (aka RHEL 5) as far as the basic underlying system and desktop packages is concerned.
