Famelix is a Brazilian desktop Linux distribution which mimics the look and feel of Windows XP. The project has released version 1.3 earlier this week with the following characteristics: many updates and bug fixes in order to facilitate the migration of users from Windows XP to Linux; Linux kernel 2.6.17; KDE 3.5.5; switch to udev for improved hardware recognition; addition of BR-Office.org; various improvements to the KDE desktop and Samba integration; simplification of the launch menu; improved hardware support for wireless network cards, webcams and modems. Famelix GNU/Linux is a Brazilian desktop distribution with a goal to clone the look and feel of Windows Vista. The first release candidate for version 2.1 was announced earlier today. What's new? Support for five languages - Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, German and English; auto-mounting of external storage media; automatic package updates from the new Famelix repository; based exclusively on Debian and built with the help of Debian Live scripts; support for various wireless network cards; support for 3D desktop effects on NVIDIA, ATI and Intel graphics cards; the latest Compiz Fusion with new functionality; new control panel and system installer.... Famelix is a Brazilian Linux live CD designed for potential Windows converts - complete with a familiar look and feel of Windows XP. A new version 1.1 has been released after some six months in development; it includes a new kernel with patches for bootsplash and supermount, a number of updated packages, such as KDE 3.3.2 and OpenOffice.org 2.0 beta, multilingual support, and other optimisations. Famelix is a new Linux distribution developed by Brazil's Faculdade Metropolitana de Guaramirim (FAMEG) and based on the work of Kurumin Linux. Its peculiarity lies in the adaptation of the KDE user interface so that it resembles Windows XP as much as possible (see screenshot). Famelix 1.0 was released earlier this week and is available for download via BitTorrent (file size 410MB).
