Wazobia Linux
Wazobia Linux was a Nigerian commercial distribution based on Red Hat Linux. Developed by Leapsoft Ltd Nigeria, the product includes a user-friendly operating system, together with a complete set of desktop applications, such as office suite, web browser, instant messaging client, multimedia viewers, and graphical software. It also offers the latest open source applications for developing software, setting up a home network, running a web server, and more. The product, which includes installation media, printed documentation and installation support, was currently available in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo as well as English, with ongoing translations into other African languages.

OpenBSD 3.8 has been released: "We are pleased to announce the official release of OpenBSD 3.8. This is our 18th release on CD-ROM (and 19th via FTP). We remain proud of OpenBSD's record of eight years with only a single remote hole in the default install. As in our previous releases, 3.8 provides significant improvements, including new features, in nearly all areas of the system: Improved hardware support, including new aps driver for the built-in accelerometer found in some IBM ThinkPad laptops, new art driver for Accom Networks Artery T1 and E1 cards...." OpenBSD 3.8 is available as a network installation CD image for a number of architectures; here is a quick link to the i386 image: cd38.iso (4.55MB). The OpenBSD team have announced the release of a new version of the project's security-focused operating system. OpenBSD 7.6 introduces several security fixes, clearer dmesg output, introduced support for the Milk-V Pioneer board, and importants the scandirat utility from FreeBSD. "Added scandirat(3) from FreeBSD. Added elf_aux_info(3), designed to let userland peek at AT_HWCAP and AT_HWCAP2, using an interface from FreeBSD. Added missing function wcsnlen(3) to find length of a wide string (i.e. wcslen(3) with a max len argument). Imported libva 2.22.0, an implementation for VA-API (video acceleration API). VA-API provides access to graphics hardware acceleration capabilities for video processing. Added the option '-u name' to env(1) to remove a variable from th environment. Various bugfixes and tweaks in userland: Throughout the source tree, add missing error checks to calls of gmtime(3) and localtime(3). Added missing error checks to all calls under libexec and sbin in case of ctime(3) and ctime_r(3) failures when timestamps are far off." The OpenBSD team have announced the release of OpenBSD 7.4, the latest version of the project's security-focused operating system. The new version includes a lot of virtual machine improvements, better SMP performance, wireless networking updates and an interesting random timing feature for the cron daemon. "In cron(8) and crontab(5), add support for random offsets when using ranges with a step value in cron. This extends the random range syntax to support step values. Instead of choosing a random number between the high and low values, the field is treated as a range with a random offset less than the step value. This can be used to avoid thundering herd problems where multiple machines contact a server all at the same time via cron jobs. Extend and improve the ibuf API in libutil and add functions for more specific data types, for modifying data at specific offsets, for getting and setting the file descriptor stored on the ibuf and for efficient wrapping of ibufs into imsgs. The ibuf API is mostly used in network daemons. In wsconsctl(8), add button mappings for two- and three-finger clicks on clickpads. In pax(1) and tar(1), do not open files that will be skipped, speeding up archive creation when many files are skipped." Additional details can be found in the release announcement. Theo de Raadt has announced the release of OpenBSD 7.3, the 54th release of the security-oriented operating system. Some of the key features include providing ksh acccess from the system installer, the use of LibreSSL 3.7.2, and OpenSSH 9.3. "We are pleased to announce the official release of OpenBSD 7.3. This is our 54th release. We remain proud of OpenBSD's record of more than twenty years with only two remote holes in the default install. As in our previous releases, 7.3 provides significant improvements, including new features, in nearly all areas of the system." The release announcement goes on to provide a long list of technical changes, including: "Installer, upgrade and bootloader improvements: Made installer answers ! and (S)hell drop into a ksh(1) environment rather than the more limited sh(1). Added support for configuring interfaces by lladdr (MAC). Made the installer skip interface configuration questions when no interfaces are available. Fixed resizing partitions on an auto-allocated disk that had a boot partition. Stopped the installer from asking to initialize disks that have softraid(4) chunks. Made efiboot fdt support device trees with NOPs in them (like the kernel version). Improved the default choice for the installer's install media disk question to show the first disk that (a) is not the root disk and (b) is not a disk with softraid chunks (hosting the root disk, for example). BSD Release: OpenBSD 7.1 |

The OpenBSD team have announced the release of OpenBSD 7.1, the latest version of this security-oriented operating system. The project has done a lot of work in the last six month, with efforts going into making OpenBSD compatible with Apple's M1 architecture. Improvements have also included wireless driver updates, fixes for tmux, and changes to how OpenSSH handles file transfers. "Near miss in sshd(8): fix an integer overflow in the user authentication path that, in conjunction with other logic errors, could have yielded unauthenticated access under difficult to exploit conditions. This situation is not exploitable because of independent checks in the privilege separation monitor. Privilege separation has been enabled by default in since OpenBSD 3.2 (released in 2002) and has been mandatory since OpenBSD 6.1 (released in 2017). Potentially incompatible changes: In OpenSSH 8.9 the FIDO security key middleware interface changed and increments SSH_SK_VERSION_MAJOR. The project's latest release, version 7.0, introduces RISC64 architecture support, drivers for Apple M1 systems, adds several driver improvements, and the timeout utility from NetBSD has been imported. The project's latest release, OpenBSD 6.8, introduces support for the powerpc64 CPU architecture, improves the speed of time-related operations, and offers several fixes. "New/extended platforms: New powerpc64 platform, supporting PowerNV (non-virtualized) systems with POWER8 and POWER9 CPUs, such as Raptor Computing Systems Talos II and Blackbird systems. POWER8 support has not been tested on real hardware yet. Improvements to time measurements, mostly in the kernel: Added support in the kernel and libc for timecounting in userland, eliminating the need for a context switch everytime a process requests the current time, thereby improving speed and responsiveness in programs which make many gettimeofday(2) calls, especially browsers and office software.
