NEW • Development Release: Progeny Debian 3.0 Preview 1 |

The first preview release of Progeny Debian 3.0 Developer Edition is now available for testing: "I'm pleased to announce that Progeny Debian 3.0 Developer Edition, Preview Release 1, has been released. This release has mostly been a shakedown for the new Platform Development Kit, and so there are not very many changes. We are mostly up to date with Debian sarge as of April 18. As part of this migration, the repository layout has changed; all the components are now in one big 'main' apt component, and there are no comps.xml fragments. We are planning to continue support for components maintained with comp-get and comp2repo until we have a better solution, however, so external components should still work." See the release announcement and release notes for more details. Download: pd3de-pr1-1.iso (656MB) and pd3de-pr1-2.iso (268MB).

About Progeny
Founded in March 2000, Progeny Linux Systems develops Linux-based software and services for networking computing environments. Progeny Componentized Linux is a new kind of Linux "distribution", built bottom-up as a set of interchangeable parts that closely track their counterpart "upstream" open-source projects, rather than top-down as a monolithic, difficult-to-change whole. By being constructed in this fashion, the componentized Linux is easier to customise and modify than traditional Linux distributions.

Development Release: Progeny Debian 2.0 RC2 |
The second release candidate of Progeny Debian 2.0, Developer Edition, has been released: "We have just released Release Candidate 2 of Progeny Debian 2.0, Developer Edition. Some highlights: crashes in Anaconda that report problems with 'adbox' are now fixed; serial ATA is now supported.; the comp-get tool for managing components has been overhauled, and should work well, but because of the problems with the RC1 version of comp-get, people upgrading from RC1 are encouraged to use the upgrade instructions in the release notes; many updates from Debian sarge; the Eclipse and Tomcat components have been removed, as the versions available in Debian are old." More information in the release announcement and release notes. Download: pd2de-rc2-1.iso (653MB) and pd2de-rc2-2.iso (253MB).

Development Release: Progeny Debian 2.0 Alpha 1 |
Progeny has released an alpha version of Progeny Debian 2.0, Developer Edition, as part of Progeny Componentized Linux: "I am happy to announce the release of a sample application of Componentized Linux: Progeny Debian 2.0, Developer Edition. This is an early alpha release. Please read the release notes before installing Progeny Debian. In addition to the release notes, a problem was found very late in testing in the OpenOffice.org component that interferes with some of GNOME's installation. To fix it, either deselect OpenOffice.org in the custom component screen when installing, or log in as root on the newly installed system and run "dpkg --pending --configure". This problem will be fixed in future versions of Progeny Debian." Read the rest of the announcement and the release notes. Download: pd2de-bin-1.iso (600MB).
