The latest CensorNet Bulletin reports about the release of CensorNet 3.3: "At long last version 3.3 is available to download. There have been numerous features added, including support for Windows 2003 Active Directory, 2.6 Kernel, workstation control by IP address and a much improved BLUD processing speed. This is the first release candidate of CensorNet 3.3, a Debian-based Internet Management Appliance designed to control and monitor individuals accessing Internet resources on a local area network. From the changelog: "Migrated to kernel 2.6.6, included support for SATA controllers (libata), and USB keyboards. Updated modutils package to suite new kernel. Included NTP client and server configurable through setup program. Updated various Debian packages to latest versions. BLUD updated to V3, now uses transaction blocks which vastly increases speed of packet processing. User can specify BLUD categories to opt-out of totally through setup program....". CensorNet 3.2 has now been officially released. The announcement came in the 1st issue of CensorNet Bulletin: "CensorNet 3.2 is now available to download from our web site. There is a migration script for those wishing to upgrade from a previous version of CensorNet and a HOWTO document explaining the migration process. For a changelog, please see this post." This is an interim release prior to CensorNet 4.0; a GPL edition of is available for free download after registration. CensorNet 3.1 Final has been released. Changes: "Now based on Debian 3.0r0 Woody (stable), instead of Debian 2.2r3 Potato; also applied various Debian security patches; totally re-written Web access reports, much faster; added 'Reset Admin Area Access Rules' to setup program; added support for up to 2 PDC/BDC/Domains if using NT4 user authentication; 'Upgrade' feature on front end, allows you to easily patch and upgrade your CensorNet system with packages from Intrago Ltd.; upgraded base filter proxy code to DansGuardian 2.4.6, fixing a few filtering bugs e.g. the 'porn..com' dot dot bug that bypassed the blacklist; updated to gcc 2.95.4 and recompiled all major sources including kernel; upgraded to caching proxy service to Squid-2.5-STABLE1..." Matriux
Matriux was a Debian-based security distribution designed for penetration testing and forensic investigations. Although it was primarily designed for security enthusiasts and professionals, it can also be used by any Linux user as a desktop system for day-to-day computing.
