OLPC OS
One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is an initiative to build a low-cost laptop computer with a pre-installed operating system and applications designed for children in developing countries. The operating system is a Linux-based solution, a heavily customised edition of Fedora Core with a special graphical user interface called Sugar. Among applications, the system includes a web browser built on Xulrunner, a simple document viewer based on Evince; the AbiWord word processor, an RSS reader, email, chat and VOIP clients, a multimedia authoring and playback environment, a music composition toolkit, graphics toolkits, games, a shell, and a debugger.

LAMPPIX is a new Linux live CD based on KNOPPIX and Damn Small Linux. It includes a web server (XAMPP), and it allows you to burn your PHP-based web projects onto CDs and give them away. The recipient then only needs to insert the CD and reboot to view your project or web site. Find more information about LAMPPIX on the distribution's home page, and in this readme file. The inaugural LAMPPIX 1.0 was released a few days ago; get it from ibiblio.org: lamppix-1.0.iso (171MB).

About LAMPPIX

LAMPPIX is a Linux live CD based on Knoppix and Damn Small Linux. It comes with the XAMPP web server, MySQL database, PHP and Perl scripting languages, as well as other tools to run PHP-driven web pages directly off a CD-ROM.

A a new version of LAMPPIX is now available. From the changelog: "1.1: harddisk installer works now; cleanup; new Kernel: 2.6.6 (vanilla from kernel.org + KNOPPIX patch + bootsplash); use ALSA for sound; added X-CD-Roast, CUPS, Abiword, Dlume, Captive; updated a lot of packages; changed default language to English; removed all busybox symlinks and replaced those programs with their more powerful brothers; added XFree86 4.3 and use it instead of Xvesa X server; added menu entries; XAMPP package is now included within the KNOPPIX filesystem..."
