Burapha Linux Server
Burapha Linux Server was a free Linux distribution. It was a descendant of Burapha Linux 5.5, which in turn was a descendant of Slackware 10.x. Burapha Linux Server does not have any packages taken directly from Slackware; the project builds their own packages and have their own package manager. The primary purpose of development was for the computer science students to learn the infrastructure of a UNIX system, and to apply the acquired knowledge in research and projects.

The MoviX project has released MoviX2, version 0.3.0: "Since the 0.3.0rc2 turned out to be pretty stable and no big bug was found in the last three weeks I promoted it to 0.3.0 with just a few minor fixes." Work has started on version 0.3.1: "Since now I've got an EPIA M-10000 I immediately started a new "experimental" version 0.3.1pre1 that supports that beautiful MB!" | About MoviX
|
| MoviX is a package that allows you to create bootable CDs able to boot & autoplay your multimedia files. It is intended mainly to play video files but if you want it can be used to play also audio files. I plan to release eventually a distro similar to MoviX but aimed at audio only, so stay tuned! The philosophy behind MoviX is to make possible to generate video/audio CDs that are self-sufficient, i.e. that you can play on every PC regardless of what is installed on it: just insert the MoviX CD inside a CD/DVD-ROM and boot the PC from there! MoviX2 is a small Linux distro on CD aimed at playing multimedia: when you boot your PC with the MoviX2 CD the distro should be able to start X-Window and launch gmplayer, the GUI interface to mplayer, so that you are left with a nice user-friendly interface you can control by your mouse. At that point you can safely remove the MoviX2 CD and play all multimedia files you want: DVD [no zone constraint], VCD, DivX, avi, mpg, mp3, ogg etc.

eMoviX is a micro Linux distro meant to be embedded in a CD together with all video/audio files you want, so that the CD will be able to boot and automagically play all of its own files. eMoviX 0.9.0rc1 is out: "This 0.9.0rc1 version contains several improvements and bugfixes and most likely, since it has been already thoroughly tested, it will become shortly the new stable version. All features that I meant to implement in eMoviX when I first started the project (many more, actually!) are now fully developed so this same version will also probably become the final 1.0 eMoviX version." The MoviX project has released MoviX2, version 0.3.1rc2: "Just a few words about the new MoviX2 release: a few bugs found in rc1 have been fixed (e.g. remotes and the cle266 tv-out) and a few new features have been introduced (support for selecting the NIC to use when more than one is found, support for more wireless and PCMCIA cards, support for modifying the size of the MPlayer GUI font and to select the default interface to be started at the boot). In particular, all new features of MoviX are now also inside MoviX2, and you can actually access the MoviX menu itself from within MoviX2, that is good because it means you are now able to take advantage of the MPlayer 'X' drivers from the MoviX menu... In short, now in MoviX2 you can use three different interfaces... Note that this means that from now on the only reason to use the good old MoviX distro is if you want to boot on a PC with not-so-much RAM (i.e. lower than 128MB)." A new version of MoviX is out: "MoviX 0.8.3 fixes the little boot problem that was recently found in 0.8.2. Since it seems bad to release a new version just to fix a single file, a few interesting features and fixes were also added: the 'install.pl' script is now able to install automatically MoviX on a HD partition and make it bootable (but do not use this script to install MoviX on a partition shared with another OS!); when booting from HD, most files will not be loaded in RAM but rather used from the HD, so that you'll get full MoviX features already with 64MB of RAM; Russian and French menus have been updated; a Russian version of the README has been added...." MoviX 0.8.0 has been released: "After exactly 8 months of tests and prereleases, the stable 0.8.0 version of MoviX is finally available! Hope it won't take 9 months for 0.9.0 ;-) There are a few important changes from 0.8.0rc2: better remotes support; reduced system size; Italian translations (thanks to Walter Sammarchi). Till now only Hauppauge and Logitech remotes are supported. Everyone is invited to send to me or post on the forums configuration files for more remotes. This should be trivial for (Win)Lirc users, and I'll post soon a tutorial for all others.
