A first release candidate of the upcoming LRs Linux 0.3.1 has been released: "The next release 0.3.1 IggY is now out. It includes a lot of new features within the IDUM package which are: upgrade - download the latest IDUM database if a newer version is available; list-newer - will attempt to list all packages that are newer than those already installed on your system. Also the new release will have the latest version of Gnome 2 and KDE 3.1 as well as Kernel 2.4.20, GCC 3.2.1 and many more new packages." |
| LRs-Linux is based upon Linux From Scratch (LFS). In contrast to LFS and most common distros, LRs Linux has the ability to compile directly from the CD. This means that binaries can be natively compiled for the target host during the install, enhancing the performance of the resultant system. The install process is largely automated.

A new version, Creme-13, of the recently revived LRs GNU/Linux distribution is out: "Merry Christmas and happy LRs with our brand new release Creme-13. Includes LFS-5.0, Linux-2.4.23, KDE-3.1.4 and much more. Some people don't need a full-blown LRs, so we will release three more ISO images in the next few days: LRs_with_X_and X-stuff (without KDE); LRs_Only_Console_tools; LRs_Pure_LFS." Resurrected from the dead, the LRs GNU Linux distribution is getting ready for its next release with a new release candidate: "The newest LRs GNU Linux Release Candidate 'Creme-13' is out now. Based on LFS-5.0 with KDE-3.1.4, Kernel-2.4.22, LRsGrubConfig, LRsBootConfig, LRsStatusReport on tty2 and much more. Have fun!" That's according to this release announcement. Linuxzone.cz has interviewed Bernd Eller, the project leader of LRs GNU/Linux: "I started with the development of LRs in January, 2001. My goals for LRs were found real fast too: it should be able to install a processor-optimized, complete Linux From Scratch with X and KDE, plus a few console-based utilities overnight. My selection of packages was first limited to all the packages I absolutely needed, which was soon not enough..." LRS-GNU/Linux 0.3.0 has been released. Besides bug fixes, the 0.3.0 version includes a new AutoDEP function with an ability to resolve dependencies either automatically or selectively based on user's decision. There is also a new ability to install LRs directly from the ISO image on your hard drive without the need to burn a CD. Download it here: LRs-Linux-V.0.3.0.iso (378MB). LRs-Linux is Back |

The LRs-Linux web site has been saying it for a while, but now the project team has a new release to prove it: version 0.3.0rc2 has been made available for download and testing. Get the ISO image here: LRs-Linux-V.0.3.0-rc2.iso (370MB). Major new features in this version include use of GCC 3.2 to compile the source code, KDE 3.0.3, XFree 4.2.1, Apache 2.0.40 and other package updates as well as idum, a new package management software. LRs-Linux is based on Linux From Scratch with automated compile-install procedures directly from the boot CD so no host Linux system is required for its installation. LRs - Linux Project Closed |

The LRs - Linux project has been closed. Not much detail is given on the distribution's home page, but it's ironic that the project is over soon after it was given space and exposure in the latest edition of the UK-based Linux Magazine. LRs - Linux was an interesting project based on Linux From Scratch with automated installation, inclusive of X-window and KDE and without the requirement to have an existing Linux installation. It seems that, as the developers' enthusiasm evaporated so did the promising project.
