UserLinux
UserLinux was a GNU/Linux distribution based from Debian, but streamlined to a smaller set of default applications. The UserLinux variants (server, desktop, etc.) will be freely available in both source and ISO formats. Application specifics are being worked out right now. The desktop environment will be GNOME featuring OpenOffice.org for word processing. The server configuration will include Apache and Postfix. UserLinux will be complemented by a network of service providers offering certification, support, and professional services.

After nearly two years of development, OpenNA Linux 1.0 has been released. From the release notes: "The version 1.0 contains many new features and enhanced functionality as compared with previous versions of OpenNA Linux. Security notes: All components of the operating system are protected against the exploitation of buffer overflow vulnerabilities in process stacks. All permission files and directories have been reviewed and improved for high security. All configuration files and software have been rewritten & rebuild with high security in mind. The Grsecurity kernel patch with most of the entire security features that it provides has been implemented into the kernel." More features. Two ISO images are available for download: openna-i686-disc1.iso (384MB) or openna-i686-disc2.iso (600MB). A retail edition of the product with email support and documentation can be purchased from the distribution's online store (US$47.95).

The second release candidate of OpenNA Linux has been announced: "The OpenNA Linux Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the OpenNA Linux RC2! The RC2 version is devoted to bug fixes, improvement, and general polish of our upcoming major 1.0 stable release. We strongly recommend upgrading to RC2 in particular, as it is the Best OpenNA Linux Release Ever. You'll find plenty of information about OpenNA Linux RC2 in our extensive release notes. This is the latest RC series for the operating system, and all works are made on the final stable release (version 1.0) now. We highly recommend you to run the operating system in real live server environment and report any possible problem or bug that you could find to us." The first release candidate of OpenNA Linux is now available: "Many features have been added and a lot of bugs have been fixed. The most important changes are the addition of a working GUI (Graphical User Interface) based on Gnome 2.0.3, a new TUI (Text User Interface) to install the operating system from scratch, all files are protected from possible buffer overflow attacks, a complete Grsecurity patch implemented into the kernel and better optimization flags used to compile all binaries. This release of our operating system can be downloaded in an ISO file to by burn on CD-ROM for installation into a bootable CD-ROM system. The TUI allows you to install the type of server that you want in less than 10 minutes."
