New Red Hat reviews continue to pour in - this one is from LinuxLookup: "I was thouroughly pleased with Redhat 7.3. My installation on this laptop was without incident and I consider laptops to be one of the more difficult installation platforms due to their specialized hardware. The few hiccups I had were fixed with downloading files from the Internet. To this date I have no serious problems with my computer." Red Hat received 18 out of 20 possible points, the author's only complaint was that the installation files were spread on three CDs instead of one DVD. This is the complete review.

| Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is a Linux distribution developed by Red Hat and targeted toward the commercial market. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is released in server editions for x86, x86_64, Itanium, PowerPC and IBM System z architectures, and desktop editions for x86 and x86_64 processors. All of Red Hat's official support and training and the Red Hat Certification Program centres around the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform. Red Hat uses strict trademark rules to restrict free re-distribution of its officially supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but still freely provides its source code. Third-party derivatives can be built and redistributed by stripping away non-free components.

Gil Cattelain has announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.1: "RHEL 9.1 builds upon the previous enhancements introduced in version 9.0, including advanced automation and management features, such as the RHEL web console and system roles, which make it easier for customers to automate manual tasks, standardize deployments at scale and simplify the day-to-day administration of their systems. Enhanced capabilities added to RHEL 9.1 help simplify how customers manage system security and compliance when deploying new systems or managing existing infrastructure. Organizations can now take advantage of new Ansible tooling, access RHEL systems using identities stored in an external source, implement multilevel security (MLS) to match their needs and remotely verify the integrity of their operating system's boot environment. Red Hat, Inc. has released Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.7 earlier this week. This is the latest version of the company's legacy branch of Linux distributions, fully supported until May 2024. RHEL 8.7 brings several new features: "RHEL 8.7 introduces a number of new capabilities, including the ability to view and manage system-wide crypto policies for consistency and reduction of risk, label and optionally encrypt data in sosreports generated in the web console, install only kpatch updates with improved kernel live patching workflow in the web console, download installation media when creating a new virtual machine within the web console, and edit custom firewall services. Also included are several new RHEL system roles, especially the new Redfish Ansible automation modules, which let customers use the Redfish hardware management interface to control the power state of a system, manage the order of boot devices, manage Redfish accounts and virtual media." Development Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 Beta |

Red Hat has announced the availability of a new development release, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 Beta. The new development release is built from CentOS Stream. It finishes the migration from Python 2 to Python 3. The new beta also offers smaller binaries due to link time optimization. "Link Time Optimization (LTO) is enabled in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, and the system comes with a number of packages that are built with it. As a result, applications have smaller and faster binaries and allow deeper inspection of source code at compile time. This can improve GCC diagnostics for potential coding errors, such as One Definition Rule (ODR) violations. Go 1.16 brings support for the new embed package, enabling developers to bundle supporting data files into their Go programs and simplify developing with Go. With Go 1.16, modules are enabled by default making language dependencies easier to manage. Additionally, there are also several other improvements and performance optimizations. With the latest LLVM 12 toolset, developers can take advantage of fresher tooling, and compatibility with other code built with compatible versions of LLVM/Clang." In addition, customers can more easily export metrics to a Grafana server. This version provides access to OSTree repositories and facilitates off-line installations: "Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.4 is generally available to customers as of May 19, 2021.
