Qubes OS
Qubes OS is a free and open-source, security-oriented operating system for single-user desktop computing. Qubes OS leverages Xen-based virtualization to allow for the creation and management of isolated compartments called qubes. These qubes, which are implemented as virtual machines (VMs). This allows each component of the operating system to be isolated from other pieces, preenting compromises from spreading or information from leaking.

The FreeBSD project has announced a new development snapshot for FreeBSD 13.5. The snapshot, which is labelled version 13.5-BETA2, introduces extended timestamps for the UFS file system, updates cloud images, and smooths out the rate limits on ICMP network requests. "The second BETA build of the 13.5-RELEASE release cycle is now available. A summary of changes since BETA1 includes: cloud images no longer ship with (out of date) copies of the FreeBSD pkg repository database; UFS1 now supports dates up to 2106; 'make delete-old' now removes obsolete clang/aarch64 files which were previously forgotten; rate limits on ICMP responses are now individually jittered; bug fixes to unifdef and sysctl string handling. A list of changes since 13.4 will be available in the releng/13.5 release notes. Please note, the release notes page is not yet complete and will be updated on an ongoing basis as the 13.5-RELEASE cycle progresses." Additional information is provided in FreeBSD's release announcement. This beta is available for amd64, i386, arm64, PowerPC, and RISC-V architectures. NEW • Distribution Release: Chimera Linux 20250214 |

The Chimera Linux project has announced a new snapshot of the team's independently-developed rolling-release distribution. "The images come with a fresh version of apk-tools. This version finally supports several features that we began using, particularly variable expansion and being able to migrate most of its files into a system-wide /usr location. That means you finally have a way to properly change your mirror of choice without having to mess with the repository definitions. The process of doing that is in the relevant documentation section. The repository definitions have been updated to use the new v3-style index naming, though backwards compatibility is also provided. Linux kernel 6.13 is used in the new images. That means updated hardware support and other things. Both the GNOME and Plasma images (the latter is still experimental) come with the latest versions of their respective desktop environments. Various fixes have been made to allow the live system to work better and more seamlessly on more machines." Additional details are offered in the release announcement. Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The company's latest release is Univention Corproate Server (UCS) 5.2-0. Some of the highlights of the new version focus on single sign-on and block list filters: "The central interface to the local system configuration Univention Config Registry (UCR) checks and validates input values now according to the type stored. This avoids errors before they occur. The validation can also be deactivated if necessary. Massive time savings for IT administrators in the configuration of the Active Directory Connection with new ones Allow and Deny filters for tailor-made synchronization. Block lists for attributes in the Univention Directory Manager (UDM) prevent the entry of incorrect data such as the use of already assigned mail addresses."
