DistroWatch.com: Robolinux

Last Update: 2017-08-17 23:14 UTC

Robolinux is a user-friendly and intuitive operating system based on the latest stable release of Debian GNU/Linux. One of the project's more interesting features is the availability of a pre-configured virtual machine support pack with Windows XP or Windows 7 - a VirtualBox setup which allows the user to install and run the Windows operating system seamlessly alongside Robolinux. This is an optional add-on that must be purchased from the project's online store.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

If you only need to access the internet, read emails or use Libreoffice then this is suitable for
you. In future download links are free only for the patrions which are twelve at this moment.
Robolinux is creating eight Debian Strech based distributions. Is this sensible or suicide?
Now Robolinux upgrade and softwares also cost which are free in other distros. Stealth WM
is good and it really works. I switched Robolinux to MX-16.1 because it is totally free and a
very good distro based also debian.

I wanted to use Linux entirely but I did not find it fully in Photoshop replacement. I own a
Photoshop CS4 license, and I want still use it. I have tried to install it with Crossover and
Playonlinux but in vain. It does not work. Recently I found the Robolinux homepage from DW
and there the Stealht VM application. I can now use Photoshop in Windows XP very quickly
within Linux. Stealth VM is really good and stable. No crashes or virus.

I also installed Robolinux mate version and find it stable and reliable. I also look very nice.

Has this distribution now become completely commercial? There are no longer download
links in Robolinux home page. Of course you can download it directly from sourceforge.net.

You get at $5 per month download links free, apps upgrade installers and free technical support.

You get $10 per month download links and apps upgrade installers, stealth vm, c drive to vm and
free technical support.

I think this will expel old users and also potential new users. I have liked a lot of using Robolinux.
It's very reliable and stable.

Now I am in two minds continue with this or move on to another distribution. Hope this does not
happen like Xandros which I also liked.

In fact, I would be willing to donate a small amount once a year but now everything seems to pay.
