Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Best distro if you are into security / pen testing.
It includes: programming tools, IDEs, TOR, Arduino and pretty much all your average pen testing (aircrack, metasploit, wireshark, hashcat etc').
My favorite to date (by far).

I really liked 3.6 and the selection of software...but became exceptionally excited to read that the Parrot team was thinking of building on Devuan for a future release. it honestly seems like a logical next step and I truly do hope it materializes (that would definitely bump it up to daily driver for me). I wasn't a huge fan of MATE, but the last release gave me a pretty good chance to play with it and have less apprehension towards it.

Installed Parrotsec and as I'm not a fan of the default MATE DE I decided to install LXDE, and I love it.

Not resource hungry (even the MATE desktop environment feels light) which is surprising considering the size of the ISO and how many tools it comes with. Had some trouble updating using the GUI update tool, so I canceled it and did the update via the terminal, which worked perfectly.

If you are looking for safe/secure browsing and some 'extras' to play with, then Parrot OS is for you. It just works!
