Linux Kodachi

Last Update: 2017-01-10 12:23 UTC

Linux Kodachi is a Debian-based distribution which can be run from a DVD or USB thumb drive. The distribution filters all network traffic through a VPN and the Tor network, obscuring the user's network location. The distribution attempts to clean up after itself, removing traces of its use from the computer.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Ok, I sorted the keyboard issue out. It was set as the US as default you just need to change it in settings to the UK and works perfectly.

The VPN works very well and has allowed me to post anon on sites that would have otherwise stored my IP address etc. It changes IP address regularly by default and includes Libre Office etc, great range of software and very stable. Sometimes the VPN will reset and then reconnect but it is not an issue.

It is a very nice operating system which I enjoy using.

Very good work from the developers, well done and thank you.

I have tried tails which are very basic when compared to this system. It has some very good privacy software with the ability to wipe Ram from the desktop. It has its own privacy browser using TOR based on Firefox which when enabled goes through its preconfigured VPN which in this case is AirVPN. It also gives information when logging out of websites if cookies have self-destructed or not.

As the internet is the number 1 privacy invader it does a great job of connecting to the Tor network if using its own Kodachi browser, this will give you your new IP address and location with links across the top of the page to relevant security websites.

It also has a nice range of security tools and is well worth using.

One little issue I had is the @ key is opposite to the " key. A slight but annoying issue.

Very happy with its performance as it runs off a live disc,

Great privacy operating system. Recommended.

I have been using it for quite a while and I really enjoy it.
I had issues with the update of Torbrowser, but by following the advice on Kodachi's website I could update it.
I also updated the whole operating system by using apt-get update and dist-upgrade.
But I wonder, if this was the right decision?
