Distribution Release: Vyatta 5.0.2 |
| Dave Roberts has announced the release of Vyatta 5.0.2, a complete, ready-to-use, Debian-based distribution that is designed to transform standard x86 hardware into an enterprise-class router or firewall: "I'm pleased to announce that Vyatta Community 5 has officially been released." From the release notes: "New in this release: introduced the first phase of a redesigned web GUI interface for interacting with the Vyatta system. In this initial phase; added support for OpenVPN; implemented support for intrusion protection system (IPS) and traffic filtering based on inspection of traffic content; Vyatta can be now configured to act as a web proxy server for web caching and URL filtering; included support for DNS forwarding; introduced support for Dynamic DNS; included the open-vm-tools library to provide enhanced performance in VMware environments...." | Vyatta has announced the release of Vyatta Community Edition 4, a Debian-based firewall distribution: "Vyatta today announced Vyatta Community Edition 4 (VC4), the latest release of its reliable, commercially supported open-source network operating system." | Dave Roberts has announced the release of Vyatta 3.0 Community edition, a specialist, Debian-based distribution for routers and firewalls: "Vyatta today announced the latest release of its open-source networking software. The Vyatta software combines router, firewall, and VPN capabilities into an integrated solution that delivers twice the performance of proprietary network solutions at half the price. As the third major release, Vyatta Community Edition 3 adds a number of changes and enhancements, including: IPSec VPN - Vyatta now supports dedicated site-to-site (branch-to-branch or branch-to-HQ) virtual private networking and supports the most widely used cryptographic algorithms. Multi-link PPP (MLPPP) - MLPPP allows customers to increase WAN bandwidth by using multiple low-speed circuits. | An updated version of Vyatta, a Debian-based firewall distribution, has been released: "Vyatta is pleased to announce that Vyatta Community Edition 2.2 (code name Camarillo) has been released to the main repository. This release adds the following enhancements: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) enhancements - Per-peer BGP routing policies and MD5 authentication for BGP; NAT usability enhancements - the 'type' and 'translation-type' options have been consolidated into a single attribute for ease of configuration and the Configuration Guide has been enhanced with a greater number and variety of examples for NAT; improvements to DHCP server and DHCP relay; new options for 'show version', enhanced to provide additional information about packages; bug fixes - over 100 issues (bugs and enhancements) have been resolved with this update." | Dave Roberts has announced the availability of a beta release of Vyatta, a Debian-based firewall distribution: "Vyatta is pleased to announce that version 2.2 (code name Camarillo) has been released to the testing repository. This code is beta quality and is suitable for anybody running Vyatta that wants to test the latest and greatest. This release adds the following enhancements: Per-peer BGP routing policies; MD5 authentication for BGP; NAT usability enhancements; improvements to DHCP server and DHCP relay; new options for 'show version'; bug fixes - over 100 issues (bugs and enhancements) have been resolved with this update." At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
