Development Release: Ubuntu Christian Edition 5.0 |
| Jereme Hancock has announced the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 5.0: "After almost a full year without a release we finally have the next release ready. We also have a new development team and focus. The release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 5.0, based on Ubuntu 9.04, is now available for download as well as from our repository. This has been a request from the very beginning. We are excited that now Ubuntu users can simply install Ubuntu Christian Edition using APT or Synaptic. This release is a back-to-basics release and should be considered beta at this point. We are focusing on the functionality for now and will work towards the aesthetics." See the release announcement and turn to the end of the changelog for further information. Download: ubuntu-9.04-christian_edition_v5.0.iso (694MB, MD5). |

Distribution Release: Ubuntu Christian Edition 4.0 |
| Jereme Hancock has announced the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 4.0: "We are excited to announce the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 4.0. Ubuntu Christian Edition has been on hold for quite a while for various reasons, but we are back up and running. This is a 'back to the basics' release. We have discontinued most of the Windows program installers that we had in previous releases due to the difficulty in maintaining them and changes in some of the Windows programs that made it very difficult to install them automatically. We have added BibleTime as well as a bunch more resources for BibleTime and GnomeSword. We have replaced OpenOffice.org with GNOME Office to keep the ISO size below the 700 MB threshold. We have also updated the site with a cleaner web 2.0 feel." See the release announcement and changelog for further information. Download: Ubuntu_8.04_i386_Christian_Edition_v4.0.iso (675MB, MD5). |

This release adds a few new features and several updates and fixes. This release comes just after Ubuntu CE's 1st birthday. We have had a great year and are looking forward to the continued development in the year to come. We have added the WhatWouldJesusDownload toolbar to Firefox. Distribution Release: Ubuntu Christian Edition 3.2 |
| Jereme Hancock has announced the availability of an updated release of Ubuntu Christian Edition: "We have just released Ubuntu Christian Edition v3.2 (Feisty). This release fixes one potentially serious bug in the IEs4Linux Installer. The IEs4Linux Installer was deleting the bin folder that it created from the users home directory during the clean up process. This release also marks the end of the Ubuntu CE Installer. We have decided to discontinue this feature since there were some issues with the Ichthux install option." Read the rest of the release announcement for further details. Distribution Release: Ubuntu Christian Edition 3.0 |
| Jereme Hancock has announced the availability of Ubuntu Christian Edition 3.0, now based on the recently released Ubuntu 7.04: "We are very excited to announce the release of Ubuntu CE v3.0 (Feisty). The main change is, of course, that this release is based directly on Ubuntu 7.04 'Feisty Fawn'. The most visible addition is the Daily Bible Verse displayed on the desktop. At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
