Distribution Release: MoLinux 5.0 |
| MoLinux 5.0, a Spanish, Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla la Mancha in Spain, has been released. Code-named "Dorotea", in reference to a pretty girl in Cervantes' Don Quijote de la Mancha, MoLinux 5.0 is distributed as an installable live DVD. New features: improved hardware support and boot speed; optional ext4 file system support; connectivity improvements with the latest version of NetworkManager; newest versions of most of the included applications. New software: GNOME Control Centre for configuring the system; CompizConfig, a utility for setting up 3D desktop effects; Tucan, a download manager; Gru, a tool for restoring the bootloader in case it has been accidentally overwritten or damaged.... Distribution Release: MoLinux 4.2 |
| MoLinux 4.2, an Ubuntu-based, general-purpose distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla La Mancha in Spain, has been released. Code named Toboso, the new release of MoLinux is based on Ubuntu 8.10, which means that most of the included applications have been upgraded to their latest versions; these include Linux kernel 2.6.27, X.Org Server 1.5.2, GNOME 2.24.1, Firefox 3.0.5 and OpenOffice 3.0.0. The distribution's artistic team has delivered new desktop backgrounds depicting images from the autonomous community and some abstract designs, as well as brand new icons for the panels, menus and desktop. An interesting new feature is a new backup manager that automates backing up of data to external devices or over the local network. Development Release: Molinux 4.0 Beta |
| Molinux is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution developed by the regional government of Castilla la Mancha in Spain. The first beta release of the upcoming Molinux 4.0, now based on Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron", is available for download and testing. For this release, the developers have added a number of new applications, such as Cheese (a program for taking photos and videos with a webcam), Preload (a utility that accelerates the start-up of frequently used applications), Vinagre (a VNC client), SBackup and others. There is also an improved way of setting up graphic modes, while all of the previously included software packages have been updated to newer versions. This beta is considered feature complete. | MoLinux is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution developed by the government of Castilla la Mancha in Spain. Today the project announced a new stable release, version 2.2. According to the release announcement (in Spanish), this version is based on Ubuntu 6.06.1 with kernel 2.6.15, GNOME 2.14, Evolution 2.6, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 and Firefox 1.5.0.5. Some of the new enhancements include improved hardware detection and notifications, updated user manual, recognition of the apt:// protocol in Firefox, optional installation of extra software modules, centralisation of user preferences in Panel de Control, new artwork, and improvements in the Spanish translation. | A live CD edition of MoLinux 2.0 has been released. The most important enhancement of the new product is the incorporation of "Ubuntu-express", a graphical hard disk installation program developed in cooperation with the Guadalinex project. The installer also includes a partitioning program (GParted), enabling users to resize existing partitions and make space for MoLinux. | MoLinux 1.2, code name "Dulcinea", has been released. This release is the first one to be based on Ubuntu Linux, rather than Debian and Progeny; subsequently, the Anaconda installer has been replaced with the new Debian installer, which, despite being a text-mode program, is more robust, has better hardware detection capabilities, and is easier to modify and maintain. A major new feature of this release is the integration of MoLinux-related documentation with GNOME help and documentation files in Yelp. The distribution is designed primarily for desktop use; it ships with GNOME 2.6 as the default desktop environment and OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 as its principal office suite. In line with other regional governments in the country, the goal of the MoLinux project is to introduce a Linux-based operating system into offices and schools around the region and to reduce cost associated with use of proprietary software. At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
