Adam Williamson has announced the availability of the first alpha release of Mandriva Linux 2008.1: "Kicking off the 2008.1 development cycle in earnest, the first alpha is here. This alpha features X.Org 7.3, KDE 3.5.8, KDE 4.0 RC2 (in /contrib), GNOME 2.21, kernel 2.6.24, OpenOffice.org 2.3, new NVIDIA and ATI proprietary drivers, PulseAudio by default and more. Despite being a first alpha, it is also in a fairly stable and reliable state, though as always, we do not suggest you use it in a production environment. It is available in Free and One editions, with i586 and x86_64 DVDs for the Free edition and an i586, KDE-based CD for the One edition." Adam Williamson has announced that the second and final release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2008 is ready for testing: "Mandriva Linux 2008 RC2 'Kepler' was released today. New features since the release of RC1 include the final release of GNOME 2.20, the inclusion of the new 8.41.7 version of ATI's proprietary driver in the non-free repository to support Radeon HD cards, significant kernel updates that improve support for certain ATA controllers and many audio chipsets, some new features in the urpmi and rpmdrake package management tools, and over 500 bug fixes since RC1." Adam Williamson has announced the first release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2008: "The first release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2008, codenamed Copernic, is now available. The release notes are here. A guide to major new features (some of which are not yet implemented in this release candidate) is here, and the detailed technical specifications are here. This release candidate is available as a three CD or one DVD Free edition (containing no non-free software or drivers) for the x86-32 and x86-64 architectures, with a traditional installer, and as a mini-CD edition for both x86-32 and x86-64 architectures. A One combined live / install CD edition will be released in the near future (problems with Unionfs prevented the One edition from being release at the same time as the other editions)." Future betas will be available in 'One' live / install CD hybrid editions with proprietary drivers. You are encouraged to test and comment on this beta release. Feedback should be posted in the form of bug reports to Bugzilla, or if it is not a type of feedback that can be expressed as a bug report, to the Cooker mailing list or to the Mandriva forums." Mandriva has announced the release of Mandriva Corporate Desktop 4.0: "Mandriva is proud to announce the release of Corporate Desktop 4.0, the brand new version of its enterprise-dedicated work station." Some of the product's key features include: "Directory administration and integration: a new tool to set KDE user rights from an LDAP directory; mobility: simplified configuration of secure remote access and simplified configuration of 3G data cards; security: support for data encryption, high security authentication, secure connections and an interactive firewall; ergonomics: a completely new design for the desktop and integration of the latest 3D technologies." Mandriva has announced the availability of a new live CD edition with a unique 3D desktop environment - Mandriva One 2007 "Metisse": "Metisse is a window manager developed by the In Situ project. Available under the General Public Licence exclusively for Linux, Metisse differs from a classic 3D desktop ('the cube') in the way that it offers innovative windows interactions, thus enforcing work efficiency." Originally released to the members of the Mandriva Club only, the CD image with GNOME and Metisse is now available for free download from Mandriva mirrors.
