Distribution Release: kademar Linux 4.9 |
| Adonay Sanz Alsina has announced the release of kademar Linux 4.9, a live DVD with KDE 3 based on Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, offering support for Catalan, Spanish and English languages. Some of the new features in this release include: enhancements to CADI, the distribution's system configuration tool, which now comes with a GRUB configuration module and various new web browser configuration options; minor bug fixes and enhancements in "kademarcenter", a hardware setup utility; major update to the system installer which now includes an option to choose a 100% "libre" system; a new graphical start-up with fbsplash; updated Linux kernel 2.6.29. Distribution Release: K-DEMar 4.8 |

| Adonay Sanz Alsina has announced the release of K-DEMar 4.8, a Debian-based distribution and live CD with language support for Catalan and Spanish. This release arrives after a delay caused by uncertainties over possible data loss when using the ext4 file system; as a result, ext4 is available for selection during installation, but it isn't the default. Some of the changes in this release include: addition of "kdemarcenter", a multi-functional system tray utility; updated CADI, the configuration centre, which now offers a possibility to change screen resolution on the fly and a new network configuration module; miscellaneous improvements to the system installer; new AudioConversor 5, an application for encoding and decoding a variety of audio formats; support for creating bootable USB storage devices; new desktop artwork; KDE 3.5.10; the latest stable kernel 2.6.28.7. | Adonay Sanz Alsina has announced the release of K-DEMar 4.7, a Debian-based distribution and live CD designed primarily for Catalan and Spanish speakers. The biggest change is the switch to Linux-Live scripts for building the CD image, with the "copy to RAM" support and improved speed of loading applications. Other improvements: update to KDE 3.5.9; new desktop artwork and theme; improved installer with documentation; new desktop icons for launching the hard disk or USB media installer; inclusion of CSS-Miami, a WYSIWYG web site creator and editor for KDE; a new one-click GRUB bootloader restore function; updated kernel 2.6.27.6 optimised for the i686 architecture and with better support for wireless networks and webcams; many updated applications, including WINE 1.1.10, various bug fixes. At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
