NEW • Distribution Release: Guadalinex 6 |
| Guadalinex 6, a Spanish, Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the regional government of Andalucía in Spain, has been released. This version incorporates new functionality inherited from Ubuntu 9.04, with some of the most noticeable improvements being faster boot, several new programs and utilities, and the ability to run Windows applications. However, the new Guadalinex also includes features that differentiates it from Ubuntu, such as the Amigu migration assistant which can import files, settings, email and browser favourites from Windows (including Vista), and a practical user manual written specifically for this version of the distribution. Development Release: Guadalinex 5.0 RC1 |
| The first release candidate for Guadalinex 5.0, a Spanish Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the regional government of Andalucía, is ready for testing. Released to commemorate today's worldwide Software Freedom Day, this is the project's first version that comes on two CDs - an installable live CD with essential applications and an optional CD with extra software packages. Some of the other changes from earlier betas: support for installing the system directly from the GRUB boot menu without having to boot into the live CD first; an option to create a bootable USB device from the live CD; new selection of applications, easier and more powerful; 3D desktop effects (where supported by the graphics card). | Guadalinex, a project developing a localised Ubuntu-based Linux distribution for deployment in local government offices and schools in Andalucía, Spain, has announced the release of Guadalinex 4.1. Some of the most important new features include: improved compatibility with newer hardware thanks to the more up-to-date kernel; new version of OpenOffice.org (2.2) with support for electronic signatures; built-in support for 3G mobile devices from Vodafone y Movistar; improved accessibility for handicapped users thanks to Orca (2.19.4) and new voice recordings for Festival; new converter of data from Microsoft Access to OpenOffice.org Base databases; inclusion of AMIGU, a migration assistant for moving data, fonts and settings from Windows to Guadalinex; read/write support for NTFS partitions. Distribution Release: Guadalinex 4 |
| A new major version of Guadalinex, an Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the regional government of Andalucía in Spain, has been released. Guadalinex is a general-purpose operating system for the desktop; the latest version uses the Linux kernel 2.6.17 and includes X.Org 7.1, GNOME 2.16, OpenOffice.org 2.0.4, Firefox 2.0 and other popular open source applications for the home and office. Development Release: Guadalinex 3.0.1 RC3 |
| The third release candidate for the updated version 3 series of Guadalinex, a Spanish distribution based on Ubuntu Breezy, has been released for download and testing. In addition to a large number of bug fixes, the following aspects of the distributions received extra attention: updates in documentation and help files of Hermes, the hardware assistant; improvements in generating digital signatures; inclusion of a new hardware reporting facility to assist with hardware problems. Distribution Release: Guadalinex 3.0 |
| Guadalinex 3.0 has been released. Guadalinex is an Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the government of Andalucía in Spain and designed to replace proprietary operating systems in government institutions and schools. According to the release announcement (in Spanish) the latest version comes with an improved hard disk installer, permitting installation of the operating system directly from the live CD; default setup of a separate /home partition; improved hardware detection; kernel 2.6.12, GNOME 2.12. Evolution 2.4, OpenOffice.org 2.0; wizards for network configuration, including Ethernet, WiFi, modem and ADSL; and the usual range of open source software. | The second beta of Guadalinex 3, an Ubuntu-based distribution developed by the government of Andalucía in Spain, has been released for testing. Besides the usual error corrections, the new versions includes the following changes: new applications - Ipodder, XMMS, Tomboy; increase in the number of automatically detected devices; improvements in translation of Serpentine and Streamtuner; support for the Mono technology; improved help system in the installer. | Guadalinex is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution developed by the regional government of Andalucía in Spain. The first test release of the upcoming version 3 is now available for download and testing - in the form of separate live and installation CDs. The project is seeking volunteer beta testers - technically skilled users with a spare computer to test the new release and report bugs. Distribution Release: Guadalinex 2004 |
| After many betas and release candidates, the final release of Debian-based Guadalinex 2004 is out: "Today we are offering the general public an excellent opportunity to learn and use Free Software without any risks or commitments, thanks to the 'live CD' concept (a way of testing the operating system without installation). Compared to Guadalinex 1.0, this version comes with many improvements and corrections. Guadalinex 2004 includes: GNOME 2.6 desktop; office applications, like OpenOffice.org 1.1.2, Rekall and Scribus; applications for image editing and manipulation, such as GIMP 2.0.4, Inkscape, Blender, QCad...." Development Release: Guadalinex 2004 Candidata 6 |
| The sixth release candidate of Guadalinex 2004 is now available for download and testing. The release is fast approaching its final state as the number of reported bugs declined to almost zero. Most of the changes in Candidata 6 are largely cosmetic, with improved overall look and feel, better access to the desktop and modifications on the login screen. Development Release: Guadalinex 2004 Candidata 5 |
| A strategic change in the development of Guadalinex has brought us a new release candidate, version 2004 Candidata 5. It is longer be based on Debian Sid, but rather on the soon-to-be-stable Debian Sarge. As a result, the package versions in Candidata 5 have been synchronised with Sarge and testers are requested to report any newly discovered bugs. Development Release: Guadalinex 2004 Candidata 2 |
| This is the second release candidate of the forthcoming Guadalinex 2004. New in this release are: modules for USB ADSL modems with the Contextant chipset; modules for WiFi controllers (ndiswrapper); tkpppoe - a utility to configure ADSL connections with PPPoE. Many bug fixes and improvements, including problems with Epiphany, permissions when configuring printers, and Mozilla translations to Spanish. | The second beta of Guadalinex 2004 has been released. It corrects many bugs reported by beta testers and adds several new features and improvements. These include new cheatcodes and help menus, Xmule, the NVIDIA module for kernel 2.6, new plugins for the Mozilla browser, MIME modifications, improvements in the audio system and DVD copying, an option to install Acrobat Reader from /extras, and many other bug fixes. | A new development version of Guadalinex, a Spanish distribution based on gnuLinEx, is available for download and testing. Version 2004 is a second major Guadalinex release; it comes with kernel 2.6.5, GNOME 2.6, Openoffice.org 1.1.1, The GIMP 2.0, Rekall, K3b, Inkscape, and a substantial selection of games. Development Release: Guadalinex 1.0 RC5 |
| Guadalinex Guadalinex is a Linux distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux and developed by the government of Andalucía (Junta de Andalucía) in Spain. When the final version is released, the project intends to deliver 100,000 CDs containing Guadalinex 1.0 to schools and public offices. These will be distributed in local newspapers and magazines and the project expects to have around two million users within the next year and a half. The 5th release candidate of Guadalinex 1.0 was released yesterday, this is the full announcement (in Spanish). Download: guadalinex-1.0rc5.iso (592MB). At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
