Distribution Release: Clonezilla Live 1.2.2-31 |
| Steven Shiau has released a new stable build of Clonezilla Live, a specialist, Debian-based live CD designed for hard disk cloning tasks: "We are happy to announce that Clonezilla Live 1.2.2-31 is the new stable release. In this release some programs were updated and some bugs fixed. Features: based on Debian 'Lenny' repository as of 2009-10-05; Linux kernel 2.6.30; updated Partclone to 0.1.9, Memtest86+ to 4.00, live-initramfs to 1.157.3; bugs in partclone.xfs and partclone.fat have been fixed; by default '-r' option is on; option '-g auto' is skipped when GRUB 2 is found in the restored OS; an option to mount NFS 4 server was added to prep-ocsroot; language files have been updated...." | Steven Shiau has announced the availability of a new stable release of Clonezilla Live, a Debian-based live CD containing an easy-to-use partition and disk-cloning software called Clonezilla: "Clonezilla Live 1.2.2-26 (stable) has been released. This release adds a newer kernel 2.6.30 from backports at undebian.org, a new upstream syslinux 3.82, a newer Partclone 0.1.1, and genisoimage instead of mkisofs. A workaround to avoid using Partclone to save FAT file systems has been added. The smartmontools package has been added. The makeboot.sh script has been improved to allow USB devices /dev/ub[a-z]. | Steven Shiau has released a new stable version of Clonezilla Live, a Debian-based live CD designed to clone hard disks and hard disk partitions: "Clonezilla Live 1.2.1-53 (stable) released. This is a bug-fix release with a few improvements. Changes: based on Debian 'Lenny' repository on 2009-04-06; language files were updated; merged the revised language file en_US; options -j2 and -j3 were merged to be a single parameter -j2; now '-g auto' option will run grub-install only when the GRUB configuration partition is on the restored partitions list; ocs-live-dev will use tar instead of zip when recovery file is larger than 2 GB; the prompt to use space key to mark the selection was added to checklist dialog; live-initramfs was patched to work on network booting with 2 or more NICs in the client...." In this release, we have two new languages and some improvements in cloning Microsoft Windows. This is a bug-fix version with some minor updates: based on Debian 'Lenny' repository on 2008-12-08; kernel 2.6.26-11; some typographic errors in en_US were fixed; added HexEdit and cryptsetup; serial number of disk is shown when saving partitions; Clonezilla now will honor the boot parameter ocs_pre_run, and it will be run during boot-up; '-b' option was added to restore mode; new gPXE 0.9.6; bug fixed - list of locales in ocs-live-hook.conf without comma; bug fixed - when creating recovery ISO/ZIP file with 'ocs-sr -x', the 'reboot, shutdown, none' option was asked twice." This release is based on Debian 'Lenny' with Linux kernel 2.6.26. Changes: a simplified Chinese interface was added; an option to reboot or shutdown after clone is finished was added; hardware and software information is saved in a Clonezilla image; an option to generate MD5 or SHA1 checksums after an image is saved was added; running on serial console ttyS0 is supported; some more information will be saved in image directory; when restoring an image, image name and target device are chosen first, then advanced parameters; a new option '-z1p' was added to support parallel gzip program (pigz) to compress image for SMP machines; machine product name is shown before restoring image...." An updated version was released today: "Clonezilla Live 1.0.9-19 (stable) released. This release is a bug-fixed one with some minor updates: fixed - Memtest86, FreeDOS and Etherboot were not listed in syslinux boot; fixed - CCISS RAID device restoration was broken; fixed - when 'ocs-iso -s' or 'ocs-live-dev -c -s' was run, Etherboot and FreeDOS images were not copied; syslinux related files are now in /syslinux; added sdparm, zip and unzip; makeboot.exe is replaced by makeboot.sh so that USB flash drive will boot successfully with kernel under /casper; Partclone 0.0.6 is used now so clone.fat is available; more descriptions were added to the boot menu; an option for VGA mode 640x480 was added." At one point or another gamers can hit the wall when using other OS systems such as Linux and Mac, as Windows has always been renowned as the OS of choice for the gaming community. In a lot of cases this has changed somewhat over the last few years with the use of virtualization software that helps to bridge that gap, and it can be quite successful to a point. Of course, when you virtualize another OS you can lose some of the performance, than say running a game natively, and with slowdowns and bugs comes frustration. We have listed a few resources that we think are worth a mention for different types of gamers, both online multiplayer and single player, see what you think:
- World of Goo. This is a great puzzle game that will keep you busy for hours, there's also a free playable demo version.
- If you're a online poker enthusiast we can recommend you check out the pokerlistings.com Linux poker page, it has a list of poker apps that are compatible with your OS.
- For the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) crowds you could always take a look at Vendetta online, "thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe", sounds great!
