NEW • Distribution Release: Snowlinux 4 "Xfce", "E17" |

Lars Torben Kremer has announced the availability of two new editions of the Debian-based Snowlinux 4: "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 4 Xfce and E17. Snowlinux 4 Xfce is based upon Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 'Wheezy' and uses Linux kernel 3.5. Snowlinux 4 Xfce and E17 are available in two ISO images. The Xfce edition contains Xfce 4.10 and the E17 edition contains Enlightenment 0.17. While the Xfce edition fits on a CD, the E17 edition doesn't. Both use Firefox, Thunderbird, AbiWord, Shotwell and Pidgin by default. New features: LightDM; Snowlinux LightDM greeter; Snowlinux Plymouth theme; improved Snowlinux Metal theme and icons; SnowMount; Firefox 17; Thunderbird 17; Snowlinux HD backgrounds; updated software; improved speed and response; system improvements." | Snowlinux is a set of Linux distributions based on Debian's latest stable release and featuring four different desktop environments - GNOME, KDE, LXDE and Xfce. It aims to be user-friendly, incorporating many useful tweaks and carefully selected software applications. The project also develops a separate, Ubuntu-based edition featuring the MATE (a GNOME 2 fork) desktop.

Lars Torben Kremer has announced the release of Snowlinux 4, a Debian-based distribution with MATE (a desktop environment forked from GNOME 2): "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 4 'Glacier'. Snowlinux 4 is based upon Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 'Wheezy' and uses Linux kernel 3.5. MATE 1.4 is the default desktop environment and LightDM as the new default login manager that replaces GDM 3. It includes its own greeter for LightDM. Many new features have been introduced, like snowMenu, the Snowlinux menu and snowMount, the Snowlinux mount tool for drives. The Snowlinux metal theme was colored blue and the icon set was updated with the latest Faience icons. Snowlinux now uses Pidgin as the default IM client. Lars Torben Kremer has announced the release of two new editions of Snowlinux 3 featuring the MATE, Cinnamon and GNOME 3 (fallback mode) desktop interfaces: "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 3 'White' MATE & Cinnamon & GNOME. Snowlinux 3 'White' is based upon Ubuntu 12.10. The default desktop environment is MATE 1.4. Also Cinnamon 1.6 is available besides the GNOME 3.6 Fallback mode. Our own menu, called snowMount, and a mount tool, called snowMount, has been added. Nemo 1.0.9, a fork of Nautilus 3.4, is used as the default file manager. Today is a very important day for Snowlinux. It is getting a new project with the latest E17 build desktop environment. Snowlinux 3 E17 is based upon Debian 7.0 'Wheezy' and is powered by the Linux 3.5 kernel. We're using DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. It has Firefox 14.0.1, Thunderbird 14, AbiWord, Shotwell, Audacious and GNOME MPlayer installed by default. Lars Torben Kremer has announced the release of Snowlinux 3 "Xfce" edition, a desktop Linux distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux 6.0: "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 3 'Crystal' Xfce. Due to drastic changes with GNOME 3 and Unity, Xfce is growing up more and more. Xfce is quite similar to GNOME 2 and offers an alternative for all former GNOME 2 users. This is one of the reasons why Snowlinux Xfce got so many new features and improvements. It should not lack any features and functions which are available in the main edition. We are trying to let Xfce act like GNOME 2 and to offer an alternative for all former GNOME 2 users. New features: DuckDuckGo, Firefox 14.0.1, Thunderbird 14, Xfce 4.8, Linux kernel 3.2...." Lars Torben Kremer has announced the availability of the release candidate for Snowlinux 3, a Debian-based distribution featuring the GNOME 2 desktop: "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 3 'Crystal' RC. Due to drastic changes with GNOME 3 and Unity, Snowlinux is keeping GNOME 2. The new LTS (long-term support) Linux kernel was integrated. The Snowlinux Metal theme was made GTK+ 3 compatible. Dropbox integration for Nautilus and the possibility for sharing files with Nautilus was done. Also Firefox, Thunderbird and LibreOffice are available in this release. As a nice-to-have feature Snowlinux full HD backgrounds were integrated. Also non-free Linux firmware was integrated to support more hardware out of the box." Lars Torben Kremer has announced the release of Snowlinux 2 "KDE" edition, a Debian-based distribution showcasing the KDE 4.4.5 desktop: "The team is proud to announce the release of Snowlinux 2 'Ice' KDE. It comes with the Qt 4 theme Fushigi Plasma, the Icon set was set to Snowlinux Metal and the system font is Ubuntu by default. Also present in this edition is an improved live installer which detects country, offers keyboard variants and uses UUID in fstab. It has installed a firewall called gufw. To improve the difference between user and root terminal the terminal colors were introduced. To be more out-of-the-box OpenJDK 6 Java has been made available in the default installation.
