Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the release of ROSA 2012 "Desktop.Fresh" edition, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution with the latest KDE desktop and a variety of home-made applications, utilities and tweaks: "ROSA is pleased to announce a new operating system for desktops - ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012. The product is targeted at enthusiasts who are likely to appreciate the wide choice of fresh software components. ROSA Fresh edition is a non-commercial product distributed free of charge. The name underlines the fact that the system contains 'fresh' versions of user software and system components (compared to enterprise editions of ROSA). Among the major advantages one should mention excellent state of all repositories, stable work and fast boot of the system as a whole." Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the availability of an updated release of ROSA 2012 "Enterprise Desktop" edition, code name "Marathon" and supported with security updates for five years. From the release announcement: "ROSA is pleased to announce the second update pack for ROSA Marathon 2012 operating system with an extended (5 years) period of technical support. The pack includes the up-to-date (as of April 2013) versions of applications as well as critical security fixes and updated kernel with extended hardware support. Also, we have re-branded this update pack, which is now called ROSA Enterprise Desktop X1. 'Marathon' is kept as a short code name synonym for the enterprise desktop product line. Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the release of ROSA 2012 "Desktop Fresh GNOME" edition, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution with GNOME 3.6.2: "ROSA community members have prepared a variation of the ROSA Desktop Fresh 2012 operating system with the GNOME desktop environment. Traditionally, original versions of ROSA Desktop operating system are provided with the KDE desktop environment which includes a lot of design modifications and functionality enhancements. A nice-looking ROSA theme and a set of brand-name applications highly integrated with KDE have already become recognizable ROSA features and made ROSA familiar to Linux users. However, some ROSA users prefer another desktop environment - GNOME. This desktop environment suggests its own approach to graphical environment and wider possibilities of integration with existing IT infrastructure." The release candidate of the "Desktop" edition of ROSA 2012 is out and ready for testing: "The ROSA team is pleased to announce the release candidate of the ROSA Desktop 2012 operating system. Less than three weeks remain until the final release of the distribution. The work on the new generation of the ROSA desktop operating system is coming to its end. This release candidate is the fourth and the last test version of the distribution. Since the alpha release in August, 2012 developers have significantly improved stability of the system, fixed all critical issues and added support for a wide range of modern hardware. Among the changes implemented by company engineers especially for the release candidate of ROSA Desktop 2012, one should highlight significant updates in the semantic desktop tool (TimeFrame) and improvements in the GRUB 2 boot loader." RELS 2012 is based on a combination of a package base from Red Hat, the world leader in the server operating system market, modern open technologies from upstream and brand-name ROSA tools and applications. The system is ready for testing on a wide range of desktop and mobile devices. The work on ROSA Desktop 2012 is coming to an end. Developers have 'frozen' the main repository, performed mass rebuild of system packages to ensure their compatibility (using our own development and build system - ABF) and fixed several compatibility issues found earlier." Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the availability of the second alpha release of ROSA Desktop 2012.1: "The ROSA team is pleased to present an alpha 2 of the ROSA Desktop 2012.1 operating system. Major changes from the first alpha release include basic UEFI support and update of key system components and user applications. We have also significantly improved functionality of ROSA brand-name applications: SimpleWelcome, RocketBar, StackFolder, KLook and TimeFrame. In modern computers BIOS is replaced with a new interface between an operating system and platform firmware - Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). Basic UEFI support was added to the alpha 2 of ROSA Desktop 2012.1 to allow launching the system on a broad range of modern desktop machines." Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the availability of the first alpha build of ROSA 2012.1 "Desktop" edition, a desktop Linux distribution originally forked from Mandriva Linux: "In this alpha release the main emphasis was made on libraries and core system software. We have successfully rebuilt packages from the main repository with new libraries and adopted our package base to RPM 5.4.x requirements. Versions of system components included in the alpha release: RPM 5.4.9, GCC 4.7 Linaro, glibc 2.15, KDE 4.9.0, Perl 5.14, Linux kernel 3.5.1, systemd 189, Qt 4.8.2, GTK+ 3.4.4, FFmpeg 0.11.1, PHP 5.4.6. Currently GRUB 0.97 is used as bootloader, but it will be replaced with GRUB 2 at next stages of ROSA Desktop 2012 development. Note: this alpha release only supports KDE 4!" Konstantin Kochereshkin has announced the release of an updated build of ROSA 2012, a Mandriva-based Linux distribution. Labelled as RP (Release Pack) 1, this is largely a bug-fix release with a handful of package updates. From the release announcement: "Today we are announcing the first update pack for the ROSA 'Marathon' 2012 release (Release Pack 1). The Release Pack 1 includes all LTS updates and bug fixes available at the moment: users can now avoid some graphical cards issues which prevented booting into live mode or into initial installation by using safe mode; Firefox was updated to the latest LTS version 10.0.4 and the default Yandex search issue was fixed; Linux kernel was updated to 3.0.38; KDE updated to 4.8.3...."
