NEW • Development Release: OpenELEC 3.0 Beta 2 |

Stephan Raue has announced the availability of the second beta of OpenELEC 3.0, a Linux-based embedded system built to run the XBMC entertainment media hub: "The OpenELEC team is proud to release the second beta of OpenELEC 3.0!. Internally this is known by the less-catchy name OpenELEC 2.95.2. This beta fixes some issues found in our beta 1 release, primarily fixing a non-working video output on our ATV builds. NVIDIA has decided to remove GeForce 6xxx and 7xxx support from newer drivers. For this beta we added NVIDIA's 304.64 driver as a legacy version for use with our ATV builds. Users who are using our generic builds together with GPUs older then GeForce 8xxx should switch to our Generic_OSS build or decide to change their graphic card to a newer model. Beta 2 also includes a new setting to change the amount of time before a hard disk goes into standby as well as some fixes for MCE compatible remotes." Here is the brief release announcement. | OpenELEC is a Linux-based embedded operating system built specifically to run XBMC, the open source entertainment media hub. The idea behind OpenELEC is to allow people to use their Home Theatre PC (HTPC) like any other device one might have attached to a TV, like a DVD player or Sky box. Instead of having to manage a full operating system, configure it and install the packages required to turn it into a hybrid media center, OpenELEC is designed to be simple to install, manage and use, making it more like running a set-top box than a full-blown computer.

Stephan Raue has announced the release of OpenELEC 3.0.2, a bug-fix and security update of the project's specialist Linux distribution featuring XBMC, the open-source entertainment media hub: "The OpenELEC team is proud to release OpenELEC 3.0.2! This is a maintenance release with some bug and security fixes since OpenELEC 3.0.1. You must upgrade from any previous 2.9x.x or 3.x release to 3.0.2. Changelog: update to XBMC 12.2, MySQL 5.1.68; RPi - add SPI device support; added DVB adapter Terratec H5 Rev3 to em28xx driver; add support for DVB_USB_CXUSB; add P54 network driver; replace BusyBox free with real free from procps-ng; add proper less to image (disable BusyBox less); installer - make system partition per default 256 MB...." Changelog: update to XBMC 12.1.6 (XBMC Frodo 12.1 with many bug fixes which will be released with the upcoming XBMC Frodo 12.2), this includes various fixes for Audio Engine, Raspberry Pi and other; update RPi patches; update to Boost 1_53_0; update to DVB firmware 0.0.33; update to alsa-lib 1.0.27; update to GCC 4.7.3; update to systemd 200; added support for TechniSat SkyStar S2 card with CX24120-13Z front-end; XBMC - readd Hi10p patches; Linux kernel - add ALSA upstream patches, backported from 3.8.7; Linux kernel add network related upstream patches, backported from 3.8.7; fix for issue #1987, the problem exists in the jmicron 1.0.8.5 source...." Stephan Raue has announced the release of OpenELEC 3.0.0, a specialist Linux distribution built around XBMC, the open-source entertainment media hub: "The OpenELEC team is proud to release OpenELEC 3.0.0. OpenELEC 3.0 is built to support XBMC Frodo 12.1 and almost every part of the core operating system has been updated and improved since the 2.0 release. The project now supports a broader range of media centre hardware than ever before, including dedicated OS images for the budget-friendly Arctic MC001 and ultra-low-cost Raspberry Pi systems. Raspberry Pi deserves a special mention as it has been a labour of love for the OpenELEC team. OpenELEC was the very first XBMC distro to be demonstrated on development Pi hardware back in February 2012 while other distros were still talking about future plans and hoping for news on shipping dates." Internally this is known by the less-catchy name OpenELEC 2.95.1. Shortly after our OpenELEC 2.0 release we are proud to present our first OpenELEC 3.0 beta. With this new version come many exciting updates. Based on XBMC 12.0 Frodo, OpenELEC 3.0 brings official support for our first ARM devices, the Raspberry Pi, Linux kernel 3.6, improved PVR support and of course, the long-awaited audio engine. This new version of OpenELEC also includes many driver updates, including new support for many DVB and wireless devices.
