NEW • Development Release: Kwort Linux 3.5 RC1 |
David Cortarello has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Kwort Linux 3.5, a CRUX-based lightweight Linux distribution that uses the GTK+ toolkit and the Openbox window manager: "Today I'm rolling out a new release of our system. We have been testing this release for over a week and it looks pretty stable. Our system got a complete update, from the toolchain to the latest X11 applications. We are rolling this release with Linux kernel 3.5.4, the latest Chromium (Firefox is available in the ISO image in more/xapps). The latest LibreOffice is also available in the ISO image (more/xapps) for you to install with kpkg. Most noticeable changes are in the installer and kpkg as both got a speed-up and I also gave kpkg the ability to upgrade a single package or the whole system. Ext4 has become the default file system." Visit the distribution's home page to read the full release announcement. Download: kwort-3.5rc1.iso (337MB, MD5). |

Distribution Release: Kwort Linux 4 |
David Cortarello has announced the release of Kwort Linux 4, a lightweight CRUX-based distribution (now for 64-bit systems only) with Openbox and a custom package manager called kpkg: "Kwort Linux 4 is finally here. For those who don't know, Kwort 4 is a full x86_64 system. In the last couple of week we've been testing Kwort 4 hard to see if everything is 'stable-enough'. This new version is actually pretty awesome, fast, stable, and with the simplicity that has always characterized Kwort. Because of the architecture switch, we have everything rebuilt from scratch, from the toolchain to the latest X11 application. And of course, our package mirror is already populated with some useful packages. Now, the most significant technical aspects: Linux kernel 3.8.5; Chromium 25.0.1364.97; Firefox 20.0; LibreOffice 4.0.1." Visit the distribution's home page to read the full release announcement. Distribution Release: Kwort Linux 3.5 |
David Cortarello has announced the release of Kwort Linux 3.5, lightweight distribution based on CRUX with a custom package management tool: "Finally Kwort Linux 3.5 has arrived. We have been testing this release for a month and it needed just one public release candidate to get a known bug-free system. Those who installed RC1 can upgrade to the final version with kpkg. In this version our system received a complete update, from the toolchain to the latest X11 applications. This might be the last i686 version as we are planning to move to x86_64 for our next release. We are rolling this release with Linux kernel 3.5.4, the latest stable version of Chromium (Firefox is available on the CD image in more/xapps). The latest LibreOffice is also available on the CD image for you to install with kpkg. Distribution Release: Kwort Linux 3.2 |
David Cortarello has announced the release of Kwort Linux 3.2, a CRUX-based desktop distribution (with Openbox) designed for intermediate and advanced Linux users: "Almost a year has passed since Kwort's last stable release, and today I'm rolling out a new release of our system. This is a major upgrade of almost every software package included in Kwort 3.14, except the toolchain. The most noticeable changes include: move from OpenOffice.org to LibreOffice; a new kernel 3 series, Firefox 7.0.1 (not installed by default but you can install it from the CD image) and the latest version of Chromium. Other than what's noticeable, there are tons of improvements under the hood, like the inclusion of LVM2 and mdadm for logical volume management and raid support, the ext4 file system supported in the installation and some nice improvements in kpkg." David Cortarello has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Kwort Linux 3.2, a modern, CRUX-based distribution designed for more advanced Linux users: "today I'm rolling out a new release of Kwort Linux. This will be our first release candidate for version 3.2. There's nothing new that you should be aware of if you already know the system. Also, a complete PyGTK stack is available in the mirror so Python programmers (and users) can enjoy tons of Python applications. Distribution Release: Kwort Linux 2.2 |
Kwort Linux is a Slackware-based distribution featuring the latest Xfce desktop and a custom package manager called "kpkg". The project has announced a new release, version 2.2: "I'm proud to announce that Kwort 2.2 final version has been released. The system is very stable and usable. The core system is based on Slackware and provides a rock-solid system, and it's also a great place to start making a full-featured and usable desktop environment using Xfce. Kpkg is now the official package manager, providing an easy way to remove and install local and mirrored packages. It allows the users to keep their systems up to date with the new 'upgrade' functionality. So now, Slackware's package tools were removed except of makepkg that's included in kpkg."
