NEW • Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 12.0 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 12.0, a library of Debian-based virtual appliances, integrating the best open-source software into ready-to-use solutions: "The 12.0 release is finally out after nearly 6 months of development and just in time to celebrate TurnKey's 4th anniversary. I'm proud to announce we've more than doubled the size of the TurnKey Linux library, from 45 appliances to over 100! So many innovations and competing ideas, all this free energy. We feel so privileged to have a front row seat and not just watch it all play out but also be able to play our own small role in showcasing so much high-quality open-source work while making it just a bit more accessible to users. Unlike previous releases this latest release is based on Debian, not Ubuntu. We realize this may upset hardcore Ubuntu fans but if you read on, I'll try to explain below why 'defecting' to Debian was the right thing for TurnKey." See the full release announcement and the project's virtual appliances page to learn more about the 106 ready-made solutions. Download from SourceForge.

Development Release: TurnKey Linux 13.0 RC |
Alon Swartz has announced the availability of the release candidate for TurnKey Linux 13.0, a major update of the project's vast library of Debian-based virtual appliances that integrate the best open-source software into ready-to-use specialist solutions: "Drumroll please... I'm thrilled to make not one, but two announcements. TurnKey Core 13.0RC - this is a release candidate of TurnKey Core 13 based on Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 ('Wheezy')- the upcoming version of Debian, which hasn't officially been released but shouldn't be too far off. 64-bit support - TurnKey Core 13 RC is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. This means we can now guarantee that TurnKey 13 will come with 64-bit support. The wait is nearly over. To be honest, the lack of 64-bit support has been a nagging source of embarrassment for TurnKey for quite a while now. A significant 66% of users said this was 'very important' to them. We agree." Change: new and improved signature files - include detailed steps on how to verify image integrity, as well as MD5 and SHA1 checksums for convenience; locale improvements - default locale is now set to en_US.UTF-8, updated configuration for compatibility with 'Squeeze'; bootsplash and loader - upgraded bootsplash for compatibility, removed unused panel options, and tweaked bootloader time-outs; live installer - upgraded for 'Squeeze' compatibility...." Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 11.3 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of Turnkey Linux 11.3, an Ubuntu-based set of highly specialised virtual appliances which integrate open-source software into ready-to-use solutions: "We've just pushed out TurnKey Linux 11.3, the final maintenance release based on Ubuntu 10.04. The next release will be based on Ubuntu 12.04. We're already shifting into high gear for that. There will be surprises. Hopefully good ones! The new images we just pushed out from our CloudTask automation swarm include fixes for various bruises and scrapes, as well as the very latest security updates. If you've already installed a previous version of TurnKey 11, you don't need to download anything because by default TurnKey is configured to automatically install all of the security updates over the network. The maintenance release will mainly be of interest to new users and existing users doing new deployments." Read the release announcement and see the virtual appliances page for further details. All of the 40+ appliances are available for download from SourceForge; here is a link to the "core" CD image: turnkey-core-11.3-lucid-x86.iso (159MB).

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 11.1 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 11.1, an Ubuntu-based set of highly specialised virtual appliances available as installation CD images or virtual images: "Part 1 of the TurnKey Linux 11 release is now officially out, including 45 new images based on Ubuntu 10.04.1. Part 1 mostly refreshes the existing roster of appliances in the library. In the upcoming part 2 we'll release the new appliances the community has been helping us develop over the last year. This will roughly double the size of the library. A handful of new appliances have also been squeezed in: Joomla 1.6, Magento, StatusNet, PrestaShop and vTiger CRM. This was mostly a side effect of the original (misguided) plan to do one big massive release with over 80 appliances." The detailed release announcement includes a list of changes since the release candidate and a few hints about future plans. To download one of the 40+ available appliances please see the project's SoureForge page. Here is a quick link to the "core" image from which all appliances are built: turnkey-core-11.1-lucid-x86.iso (157MB).
