NEW • Distribution Release: OS4 1.0 "OpenDesktop" |

Roberto Dohnert has announced the release of OS4 1.0 "OpenDesktop" edition, a Xubuntu-based distribution targeting legacy 32-bit hardware, ultrabooks and netbooks: "Today we are proud to announce the general availability of OS4 OpenDesktop 1.0. OS4 OpenDesktop is a 32-bit offering that runs on all legacy 32-bit hardware as well as the newer ultrabooks and netbooks. With this release we focus on mobility and cloud computing. Along with this release the system comes with Audacious, Totem, and Google Chrome. Some of the web applications that come bundled with the system are: Angry Birds, Pandora, Netflix, Flixter, GMail and offline GMail, Google Drive, eBuddy, Weather Channel, Google Books, Google Music, Google Calendar, New York Times, Hotmail and WebCam toy. Roberto Dohnert has released the second beta build of PC/OS 10.1 "OpenWorkstation", a Xubuntu-based desktop Linux distribution: "We have released beta 2 of PC/OS 10.1. With this release we have updated to the Ubuntu 9.10 base. We have removed Xsplash and GDM 2.28 and went to GDM 2.20; this is until GDM 2.28 has its many bugs fixed and becomes more stable. The beta has a better install success rate; we had some complaints on beta 1 where install was hit or miss. Inconsistent icons have been fixed. Broadcom drivers have been included. Firefox 3.5.8 has been included; users and customers have stated that they like Firefox with OpenWorkstation since Moonlight and other plugins work better with Firefox vs Google Chrome. Just one week after a new stable release, the developers of PC/OS, a user-friendly desktop distribution based on Xubuntu, present a new development version to their users: "This beta offers a look at what PC/OS 10.1 will look like. With this release there are several enhancements: Linux kernel is updated to version 2.6.29; core applications have been updated; OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 is included. This beta is nowhere near ready for a production environment. Things like simple installation to a hard disk could fail. With this release we went ahead and installed all updates, so all security updates since PC/OS 2009v2 have been applied. The changes to PC/OS 2009v2a applications are common across all releases: Asunder 1.6.2, Audacity 1.3.7, Brasero 0.8.4, GIMP 2.6.5, Gufw 0.20.7, Pidgin 2.5.5, Murrine Engine 0.60.1 SVN143, WINE 1.1.16, Opera 9.64.
