Untangle, Inc. has announced the release of Untangle Gateway 9.3, a Debian-based network gateway with pluggable modules for network applications: "Untangle, Inc., a network software company, today announced the release of Untangle 9.3, the latest version of its award-winning multi-functional firewall software. The new version includes full tunnel OpenVPN, performance improvements, and enhanced reporting. Support for full tunnel OpenVPN allows administrators to force all remote client or remote site traffic through Untangle before going out to the Internet. This new feature allows an unprecedented level of control for network administrators using Untangle to protect remote offices and employees. "New application for identifying and controlling network traffic; general performance improvements; a new 'Full Refresh' has been added to event logs to force flush events to database; an 'Export' ability has been added to allow exporting event logs to a CSV file; 'Full Refresh' now immediately dumps all events so there is no delay; remove ntpdate to prevent immediate aggressive time changes; add a 'Force Time Sync' button in UI for setting the date on the server; change installer to use the entire disk; fix Source Interface matchers in Port Forwards, Bypass Rules, and Packet Filter Rules.... With this release, we have made enhancements and fixes to the platform itself and to a number of applications. Changelog: the application order in the rack has been revised; event logs have been reimplemented, columns have been added, improvement improved, and options added; many usability improvements in the installation and setup wizards; application downloads now show progress correctly; many application settings have been moved from PostgreSQL to files; local directory users are now saved in a file; BerkeleyDB has been removed; DHCP renewing no longer restarts networking (nor disrupt VPN connections); SIP helper is now disabled by default; improve start-up time." Web Cache stores copies of online files passing through it; subsequent requests for the same files may be satisfied from the cache if certain conditions are met, rather than being re-downloaded each time.
