A new version of Lightweight Portable Security (LPS), a Linux live CD with strong privacy protection features created by the United States Department of Defence, is out. Version 1.3.3 is a maintenance release, updating Firefox, Flash, Adobe Reader and OpenSSL, and adding Thunderbird and Pidgin to the "deluxe" edition. From the changelog: "Changes in version 1.3.3: updated Firefox to 10.0.3 ESR; updated Flash to 11.2.202.228; updated OpenSSL to 0.9.8u; updated Adobe Reader to 9.5.1; updated Encryption Wizard application to 3.3.2; added Thunderbird 3.1.20 and DAVmail to LPS-Public Deluxe for S/MIME email support with MS Exchange OWA; added Pidgin 2.10.2 (with SameTime support); added VMware View 1.4; added option for OpenDNS DNSCrypt; added Firefox extension HTTPS Everywhere 2.0.1; added Firefox extension NoScript 2.3.7 (disabled by default)." | Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) is a Linux-based live CD with a goal of allowing users to work on a computer without the risk of exposing their credentials and private data to malware, key loggers and other Internet-era ills. It includes a minimal set of applications and utilities, such as the Firefox web browser or an encryption wizard for encrypting and decrypting personal files. The live CD is a product produced by the United States of America's Department of Defence and is part of that organization's Software Protection Initiative.

Software Protection Initiative (SPI) has announced the release of Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) 1.3.4, an updated version of the project's security live CD designed for secure and anonymous use of web-based applications: "Changes: updated Firefox to 10.0.4 ESR; added Firefox extension HTTPS Everywhere 2.0.3; added Firefox extension NoScript 2.3.9; updated Thunderbird to 10.0.4 ESR; downgraded Flash to 11.1.102.63 due to incompatibilities in new Adobe libraries, Flash will be updated with our next kernel update release (LPS 1.4), if running an old version of Flash poses a problem, use the NoScript add-on within Firefox to disable it; updated Encryption Wizard application to 3.3.3; updated OpenSSL to 0.9.8w; updated OpenSSH to 6.0p1; updated Java to 6u32; updated the Citrix client to 12.1.0.203066; fixed SameTime support in Pidgin, it was left out of 1.3.3 by accident; added MultiPing 0.1.2 under the Connectivity menu."
